Gentlemen,

Great job with Operation Cleanslate.  We have pushed the Japanese out of the Russells.  They are in full retreat.  We must keep the pressure on as we push into New Georgia.

The attack on New Georgia will be called Operation Toenails.

Sadly we lost the Enterprise to dive bombers late in the battle.  It is has been a severe blow to our moral.
However the HMS Victorious on loan from the British, which, for security reasons, we shall refer to as USS Robin has now joined us in theatre.

TOP SECRET

There has been a new development. Our code breakers have discovered something which could not only boost moral but also change the direction of the war.

We have learned that Admiral Yamamoto will be inspecting the troops on the island of Bougainville.  Yamamoto is the architect of the attack on Pearl harbor.  Therefore we will be calling this, Operation Vengeance.

This is an incredible opportunity and all information is TOP SECRET.  Maintain radio silence and do not send any communications regarding this mission.

We have the flight path and time of arrival of Yamamoto into Ballale airfield 24.  His flight will take off in Rabaul and he is expected to land at Buka airfield to inspect troops.  He will then take off from Buka at T+30 and is expected to arrive at Ballale airfield at T+60.  He could be flying in a troop carrier, but more likely a G4M2 Betty bomber for its defensive guns.  Because of his importance, we expect there to be heavy escort.

Orders:
You will take a group of 8-10 P-38G’s with external fuel tanks based at Henderson Field 59 and follow the path outlined on your mission map.  You must not deviate from this flight path.  Intelligence has confirmed that this will be your safest route to target.  You will not be intercepted by enemy on this path.  You will need to calculate your time of Take Off in order to intercept before Yamamoto’s flight lands at Ballale airfield.

Good luck Gentlemen.  This is an extraordinary opportunity to turn the direction of the war in our favor.

Allied Command, out.

Note from the S3 crew.  You will not be intercepted by axis if you follow the GREEN path.  There will be two Planes that could be carrying Yamamoto (as in real life) ...only the Yamamoto flight, escorts and I will know at that time. Make sure you get the right one...or both. Once you engage the Yamamoto flight, you are fair game.  Your RTB route is up to you.
This mission will be for a bonus 20 points. If Yamamoto lands at 24, axis gets the points. Your mission to take Zone 2 Operation Toenail still stands. Zone 1 now is Allied. (Russell Is.)

Can the Axis pick which airframe he will be in or is it set by management?
Can we assume there will be a real pilot flying Yamamoto and not an ai routine?
It appears that we can assume that EVERY enemy fighter will be protecting him.

I have noticed a discrepancy in arena grid lines and the DDS map grid lines by several miles. Will this impact the missions navigation parameters?

So I see the fighters have a plan. We DR's still have our b-17's to use. F45 and f40 are prime for the taking. secondary trgts would be the ports at 42 and 43. What you think?

The bomber group is waiting to hear about our fighter escorts. We understand that there are 2 airfields that need to be neutralized, but will be dependent on fighter cover to and from the drop zones. Which fighter group will be assigned to Yamamoto mission? And, which fighter groups will be assigned to bomber escort?

By the way, I do have 1-2 pilots who may want to be in on the Yamamoto mission. If that is ok?
