The Group was tasked with escort of a large buff group from England; target Berlin. It would be a long flight for our fighters and DTs needed to be carried to complete the mission. Join-up with the bomb group was at the scheduled time and RP. An escorted flight of buffs was on the way. Shortly after leaving Allied Radar, various elements of our flights began to report bandits with reasonably superior altitude to our escort flights. Bad Guys were sporadically in on the buffs all the way into Berlin, and even more frequently on the egress. The sky was full of target opportunities. Elements of the 4th and the 23rd boh joind-up with the buff stream precisely when expected. The buffs did their job well and closed the target field. For most of our pilots it was interesting to go "downtown". We had not had the opportunity to do that one in a while. All-in-all a very interesting Frame which presented operational considerations we don't always get to play with.
