I like Bomber's thoughts here... I want to show us going north and climbing. then we bust down south heading direct to target as Bombr has shown. no deception here as it's the shortest distance. pretty much the white line.

second sortie will have more of a misdirection at targets but may not matter at that point.

I dont have the graphics ability that I do at work, so I'll get something more fine tuned saturday morning.

Targets will be aluminum at Koln then two targets at frankfurt

flew the course as suggested.
T+15 at 23 k and almost to grid 4852
Reversed course back south
T+25 at 25 k at grid 4725
All boost 1
T+38 crossed line into enema territory
T+47 at tac 49
T+52 at field 53
T+55 bombs out
by myself went diamond formation 400 spread and killed 5 buildings +9 acks
Turned for home
T+63 Tac 49
T+72 crossed safe line
Landed in tower at T+79
Observations
Frame 1 and 2 it was T=30 to 40 before contact was made albeit 40 mile or so already into enema territory.
Anticipate LW watching dar for a few minutes before rolling...see us head north...launch northern airstart field and begin move to 57/58 grid.
We reappear on dar headed south....anticipate LW shadowing the do not cross line in southerly direction....possible contact with enemy fighters within 10 to 20 mile of crossing line. WE cross safe line at T+38 possibly allowing LW enough time to assemble and be waiting for us soon as we cross the line
Possible further deception/suggestion
Send a fighter group, when we off dar east, over the line for possible meeting engagement, and or, follow the line South mayhap inside enema territory 5 miles or so but getting South perhaps quicker than Buff's....If contact is made...fighters kill LW, scatter em whatever.....and cutting the corner back into Safe zone to get back with buffers just before crossing safe line headed South.
The possibilities are....LW anticipates a turn east after we disappear off dar, sets up accordingly. fighter group crosses line reappearing on dar confirming their fears possibly buying time, or killing them, dispersing them....Rather than a no contact, straight South approach allowing LW the possibility of awaiting us as soon as we cross southern safe line.
Just sharing info and thoughts

Splt and I did some tests on survivability of the B-17 against the G6/R6.

First off the Axis have a 25k airstart if you didn't know (I didn't). It can get up to 37k, but not much more and keep alt. at boost 2 which lasts 30 min. I could also maintain 3g's turning without much of a problem at that alt. The Jug when I flew it could muster 2.8G at 28k and at 2.9 it would drop a wing immediately. I got over 700 mph ground speed in a dive before pieces came off. A shame that the Jug known for high alt doesn't fly as it should, but it is what it is.

With the diamond formation (default when spawning buffs) Took out 1 engine and fuel on the rear (6) AI, but I was pk'd trying to fly up the 6. Without the wingman on your 6 you will be pk'd in a heartbeat. My suggestion; if you lose the wingman flying your 6 is to use trail 080 asap when under attack. The first frame there were some HO attacks with 1 successful that I know of and after last frame I expect you'll see more 6 attacks as they were so successful and it appears it will be the attack of choice if the 6 wingman is gone.

Just my observation, so take it as you see fit. <S>
