SOF frame 2 CO AAR

It was a bad night for warbirds in general. Heard a LOT of issues where people were being dropped from the game all day long… This led to some pretty low numbers for some of the squads and some change on the fly issues. Darryl was unable to fly and so I had to lead all the bomb groups as one.

First off, I’d like to thank all the Allied squads involved as we all went above & beyond to get our assignments done.
4th went in right on schedule but ran into ordinance difficulties which left their target still operational. The bomber group tried to get some stragglers in the group and so were a little later than desired. But the 4th had caused enough of a diversion to keep the fighters off us until we were at the target. All the bridges went down and several ships were sunk. Only one of the tunnel entrances were destroyed but we did not have a large number of bomber pilots so I was pleased with the results.

RCAF seemed to run right into a fighter sweep and were held off from their target but they were able to re-up and later destroy their targets.

Second bomber mission was a fighter sweep in radar to the south while low level strikers broke off to target. Unfortunately the enemy was not up on the hill but had moved out into the peach orchard.. The fighter sweep did not attract all the attention we wanted as the bombers were jumped by 190s & 109s well out in the ocean. In hindsight we were attacking an obvious target as we did not have time left to hit anywhere else so the Axis forces were defending the only and obvious target. Fighter sweep dove in to the rescue but the bomber formation was spread out and whittled down one by one. I was able to make it to target and sink two ships but was soon after dispatched.

AE was fully engaged and the 4th came to help out leading to a large furball which I would have liked to have seen .

In the end, I’m sure we did not score enough points to offset the Axis points they get for shooting us down. They don’t even have to fly any missions to score points… (which they haven’t) Had I adopted their same strategy then we both would have had large formations of defensive fighters covering our own shoreline. Seems like there should be some penalty for not even attempting any missions, as they were able to fully allocate ALL their resources together.

one other side note... Buffs need to stay in tighter groups.

Coolon, <S> was a great plan not your fault for the "unforeseen circumstances"
RCAF only hd 3 pilots, actually 4 but he could not stay connected for more then three minutes.
We put one in Mossie for the bridge at 104 and the other 2 in Spitfires for diversion and protection.
First sortie we were a tad spread out, and high, though my mossie would be off dar,but we know what thought did, and whne I did drop to wave top, was found
by a single 109 about 3 miles from the coast and dispatched. The spits stayed and tried to play, but no joy.
Second sortie the mossie went the entire way NOE and arrived on target, dropped 4 500s but all they did was kill a bunch of fish, reversed to attack with cannons and took
down the bridge, but alas, in my hurry to complete forgot that the mossie in a dive is not as responsive as the spitfire and :went swimming with the fishes"
Deak and Beaver played cat and mouse with the LW for the remainder of the evening, eventually Beaver was shot down, and I believe deak stayed alive for the remainder.
Was fun, boring and intense. What more could you ask for on a Sunday evening. (And get anyway)
