S3 #102 FRAME 3 AAR 4TH FIGHTER GROUP JAN 30, 2017
SORTIE 1: 4th launched with 14 shortly after T+10 following the bomber group. We formed up into 4 Flights of 4 aircraft, two flights were directed to climb to 31k and two remained in close contact with the bomber group. Bombers were followed making a couple of orbits in order to coordinate attacks. 4th maintain tight support for bombers at targets but the stream broke up with bombers striking what targets they could. High cover intercepted several enemy shooting 4 down as they descended towards the bomber formation. Coverage rapidly disintegrated as the bomber stream descended to hit water targets. Lost 4 and achieved at least 4 kills.
SORTIE 2: Discussed time available for sortie. It was decided to try and support bombers hitting targets again before time ran out. 4th FG remaining pilots took off from 191 and raced towards the south-eastern part of the Kyushu island to assist the bombers on their egress. Arrived just in time at the 3.5.2 grid as the B-24's were running home. The American eagles were locked into a hard fight to the death with the e/a. 4th found the dogfight, engaged with superior altitude and tipped the balance to Allies favor, scoring two kills. 4th RTB to CVs loosing 2 pilots on landings.

Good work 4th! Sorry about the Carrier landing losses. AE has lost a few in the last couple of frames as well. Guess we all need a bit more Carrier practice before these Pacific Theatre scenarios.

Just curious, why not land at Okinawa?

No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. George S. Patton
Time was close to T+180 so had to pick the CV's. Wouldn't have reached Okinawa until after T+200. Also expecting from veteran pilots that they all know how to land on a CV
