We upped from 56 in heavy hurricanes at T + 0, with 7 pilots, with the intent to do a quick in and out on the Northern most convoy. As we spread out to locate the ground vehicles, muzz and deak were spotted by a nervous 40 mm position Muzz was able to take it out but not before it smoked both his and deak's engines resulting in the loss of both aircraft. We were able to evade the last 40 mm and destroy several of the marauding vehicles, but lost wildcat to the alerted crew manning the 40. WLDBLL discoed at some point so yukone and myself rtb'd to 56. Upon arrival GCI reported that many many 109s were converging on the tank farms, so we decided not to go back to that particular spot. We upped again ( 2 of us) with the intent to find and sink the shipping directly north of us. We spotted a three ship convoy, dropping our bombs with at least one hit, but no joy on destruction. The AA crew aboard the last ship must have been on high alert as they smoked my engine, attempted to strafe the freighter that was hit, getting lots of sprites before they again zeroed in and destroyed my plane. Yukone rtbd to 62, and wisely stood down. Thanks to Weis for the frame lead, jabo for his patience and understanding with all the insanity these last two frames. It was a real pleasure to fly with the 8th this series, nice to finally have some numbers.
We also want to wish all a Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year, and looking forward to the rest, and will see all you lovely lads for the next one.
