Gums, Gofly & Gundoc all rolled from 33 in b-25s to search the south and east target area. I rolled a SBD from the carriers and scouted the north and center of the box.

Long flight, spread out the wingmen and switched back and forth. The SBD worked well in this role as it held altitude and didn't stall on pilot change. eventually Gofly found the enemy fleet, orders were "GO FOR THE HEAVIES". Gundoc called some hits but was under attack. Gums attacked and of course Gofly, but he was under attack also. I'm not sure of their details but eventually Gums made it back to base but gofly and gundoc did not.

I was able to find the carriers and attack with my wingmen... I hit one CV, it sank and was awarded to Gundoc. Hit another which was credited to me when the DR found it and sank it. I was able to take my lone wingman back to the carriers where I found them under murderous assault. All 4 carriers were sunk as I approached. I saw a low flight of japanese torpedo planes and dove my SBD in to attack. Got one or two wingmen then the pilot (he probably survived on a wingman). There were some weird warps going on probably because he was switching between planes. Score parser will tell the tale, but I headed south to 33 with only 5% ammo left.

landed after a LONG flight and reupped to attack along with Gums but it was too far and time expired before I got close.
Dropped my ord on a suspected japanese sub but saw no definitive results ... Landed back at base.

<S> Coolon - Again, job well done by the scouts.

I too noticed a strange glitch. As I lined up on a D3A it completely disappeared for about a second, then reappeared. I saw this a couple of times, so I also assumed this happened while they were switching aircraft.
Those moments did coincide with the messages of swapping ac in the text buffer.

Aye!

Pretty much what Cool-man said.

Long, boring search ( Dawg would have gone crazy as no "action" for over 30 minutes, heh heh), and then seconds of stark terror. NOT! Ack was benign and I would like to see it like that next series or three.

Missed the boat on first run and decided to come back. However, a Zeke spotted me and attacked, so I used all the tricks you can in a Mitchell and he finally gave up and went back to one of their boats - only two left, as the "scouts" had sunk two of them. RTB and upped a second time.

Have to check logs, but I think the "kills" are same as for buildings and the A2A kills. First guy that hits the boat gets credit once all the damage points add up. That's why Whawk, Gums and Hawk have such high scores, as we were usually up front as leaders.

The ack has not been a real problem, and the CAP was a player on only one of our frames. Frame 4 CAP was not a major player, but the few Zekes managed to kill two of our scouts plus their drones.

Gums sends...

one thing....
When dive bombing ack is TOUGH so many ships and you are very low. You need to select your egress before you dive.
not really the dive..... its the egress.

Thanks Bease for COing the frame and also for allowing the scouts to do their thing.
After I reached my assigned search area I had all my drones spread out-- then I would switch between them. I did note that after transfer the other drone would change direction for some reason. Finally after one transfer I spotted the enemy CV fleet and I called it out. However I had no luck at hitting the CVs--each sortie I was able to get a straight-in alignment but my timing was off. After the second sortie I was able to make it back to 33 just ahead of Gums and just before the lights went out.

After reading Cool AAR, I am wondering if we did not break the rules?

15. CV Loss - as CVs are sunk aircraft may rebase on the remaining ones until none are left. Once this occurs aircraft may ditch or try and land near a friendly seaplane or radar base to end the night.
