OK gents lets open a line of communication on what worked what didn't work in frame 1 so we can best optimize our forces ??

AE's/8th had a great CGI our second hop that worked with the 475th and us to coordinate a great timing a intercept of a enemy fighter sweep pinching them between us .. i personally want to thank Dazed for saving my bacon :)

ideas ? suggestions ?

So the axis sent a sweep down South. 475th/RCAF avoided the sweep and hit the bomb group and escorts. I directed RCAF to hit bombers while we kept the escorts occupied (hindsight...I didn't have the authority to do that).....not sure that order got fully implemented/followed.

Ended up in a swirling dervish (I know right?), and then I hit the bombers when escort was cleared off to west.

Good news was AE/8th came in and found the bomb group and started swatting them.

The key is NOT to engage their sweep. I think they will learn from their mistakes and have out-riggers for their sweep this time,or all be escort.

Either way, coherent cooperation with engagement simultaneous or near simultaneous is desired.

Good GCI is vital.

Having some guys dedicated to going out against the marauding strikers on our shipping would be a good plan. Maybe Knights?

Just my 2 cents.

Will have to take a look at the points results to gauge sound strategy. Not sure if the end result of our bombing campaign was fruitful, even though our bombers seemed to have far more effect on target than their's.

4th gave away strategy in their video, parking over Pantelleria and effectively taking them out of the fight. I don't think they will do the same this frame considering our effective pouncing of the bomb group. If all 4 FGs protect a bomb mission we will probably need all hands on deck to counter.

AE's/8th launched at t+0 and set up N for Malta .. when contacts appeared on Dar was directed with Ni fighters to 8 4 x for intercept..we approached the 8 4 x from the east with the sun at our backs.. Ni fighters got engaged before us and lost 1 to the 352nd. spotting the enemy fighters some low most still high .. we went into a wagon wheel left with about 12 enemy fighters.. not falling into the trap when they would send one low under us on several occasions .. after 3 rotations..hearing the buffs had passed us and us heading in the direction of Malta we broke and flew south with the enemy to our North ..we was able to catch the enemy buffs just before feet dry. with No escorts.. AE's/8th was happy we kept about 12 escort from doing their jobs keeping the occupied for a few minutes..

i think we was really lucky in the fact we only was tied up 12 AC and not their entire force.. at once.. being out that far from home base alone i kinda felt before the frame we was bait.. i also think sending low #'s into a mass is not the answer..in my book.. i kinda thinking of mallory's big wing would be more accurate to this scenario..

maybe first off should head south and cap our fleet before returning N for intercept ??

I agree with about our bombers not be effective. I think we should put all the Knights in fighters for now.

Let's see how the BDA looks but Rcflys will begin planning tonight - anyone wishing to discuss catch us on out TS. This will be his losing virginity frame so be a little nice than normal :)

Point to ponder:

There are many very high value, one time, targets on Malta that will be very appealing to the enemy. F221 is one of those and delivers 25 points to the LW. They have to sink 3 freighters to equal that one target and freighters and destroyers have to be bombed.....not strafed. The other big point targets are identified in the Points Summary chart on the S3 website. It is virtually certain the enemy will not ignore these targets in this series.

dobs <S>

"I directed RCAF to hit bombers while we kept the escorts occupied (hindsight...I didn't have the authority to do that).....not sure that order got fully implemented/followed." At the time of your order there were only two RCAF pilots with you, we had gone south to intercept the attack on the convoy we lost one to gravitational pull on the rivets, and two had to rtb for ammo after expending all ammo killing one strike pilot. Muzz and myself were separated a bit, so we did not mind at all attacking the buffs while you kept the fighters busy, your "order/request" was spot on with no thought given by us as to whom had command and control.. as it should be when engaging against great odds.
No worries from us and if it happens again the result will be the same outcome.

Just a point for RCflys.

The rules state that we can launch no more than 2 steps at T+0, 475/RCAF is worth 3 steps, so we can't launch as a whole group at T+0. That is why I had the AE/8th launch at T+0. After that, Jabo says we can launch a field the 475/RCAF can lift together.
