Post subject: | Frame Two Preliminary Ideas |
In the absence of data from the first frame and no update with regard to front line movements, we are busy creating multiple scenarios for frame two. We'll need a small fighter squad (6-10) to get the enemy to move in their direction to distract them from the bomber's intended targets. They will also serve as a deterrent against enemy bombers in their sector. We'd like to keep a larger number of fighters guarding the bomber mission. Look for additional info as soon as possible. Any ideas you may have, please post them here. Thanks, Darryl <S> CO of Doolittle's Raiders |

For a deceptive flight to work, you need 3 things. First, the flight simulating bombers needs to be tight and slow (looking like they are gaining alt). Second, it works much better if another flight RVs with the first flight ( on enemy dar). Lastly (and most important), the numbers have to be correct. If the enemy takes the bait, then you have isolated enemy fighters away from the "real" target. If they don't bite, the reverse is true in wasted assets. That's the nature of the beast, a deception cannot be strong. My 2 cents |

138, 116 and 117 are closed this frame but will open in Frame 3 (unless the line moves too far south). As we lost the frame one, unit gets upgraded aircraft, Jabo rolled 2, so RCAF 127 Wing gets the Hurri IIB, 12 303's and two 250 lbers. |

Thanks, fellas. Good info. Computer crashed and I lost all the work I did on the recon. Has the map front line changed at all? |

Only the 127 RCAF gets the Hurri IIB Front has not moved. Italians are still doing well so no Luftwaffe intervention. Key to frame 1 was the Axis closed bases. The RAF did lots of damage but needed to clean up some. Having no bombs really hurt the RAF hurris so now the RCAF has bombs and can help close fields the DR hit hard. Axis stayed low with their bombers under 12000ft. The Hurricane is much better above 15000ft so if you can get your bombers high and make the low-level MC200s climb to you. When the fight got low in the valleys the Hurris just didnt have the numbers or speed to run from the MC200s. |

Makes for an interesting tactical situation. We have to stay above 15k to stay in our flight envelope. they have to stay under 15 K. They come in with their bombers under 15 k, we have to enter their fight envelope, which the hurri's did and got spanked, just to stop their bombers. So, if either side doesn't fight outside their flight envelope, we would never meet...and the side that does, has made a tactical mistake, and may very well pay the price for it. A 2 to 1 kill ratio between hurri's and c 200's is a big diff and perhaps indicative of what happens when you do enter a fight envelope that advantages the other side. It could possibly boil down to a buff contest and which side is the better at closing bases. How serious will they be to attack our bombers in c 200's? |

Thanks for the info, JABO. Can you confirm whether F138 and F117 are closed to us during this frame? |

=vslp= wrote: It could possibly boil down to a buff contest and which side is the better at closing bases. That is exactly what I needed to hear. We will pummel 78/79/110 from 14,500 feet. I am redoing all my recon photos, which I lost when the computer crashed. Should be out later today. <S> |

Higher is better.....14500 the 200's lose boost, but still perform quite well and after one turn we are down in their performance zone...read dead. Can't out-run, can't out-turn, and can't out climb until we get them out of boost. First encounter with 200s was in the 20's...so they can climb up there just fine...and they will leave us in the dust in the dive. I don't want to lose the S3 "fun" just to say we won...sort of like not ever engaging and saying "we never lost a fighter this series"....defeats the purpose of the experience. Bombers take embedded escort, aka RCAF, and then fighters stay on Defense close to base? |
