Our opponents believe they are in inferior aircraft. This is to our advantage.

Each of the 3 opposing group has a distinct fighting style.

2 will be very high no matter what.

1 will fight to the last man

1 will log off when they hit half strength

The last will be tentative to commit and will withdraw against superior numbers.

With all of this in mind the plan is for the fighter sweep to come in early and high, drawing the enemy west. Hopefully, the shock of encountering the 475FG and 352FG en masse will result in early kills for us and demoralize the groups opposing the sweep. Also, it is hoped they will be thinking high as our strike comes screaming in low to strafe ships.

After hitting them early I want the sweep to rejoin the strike over Finschafen and make sure the enemy pays for any attempt to attack the strike aircraft.

The ideal situation would be for the enemy to scatter its forces, basing one group at Nadzab, one at Cape Gloucester and one on the north coast of the Huon at Saidor. If they do that, they will be fed piecemeal into the fighter sweep buzz saw.

They may heed Jabo's advice and avoid the initial sweep, in which case that sweep needs to get to the Strike as early as they can after the Strike penetrates radar.

The worst case scenario is all enemy groups flying together. They would have numbers on our fighter sweep. IN this case, the fighter sweep needs to drag the enemy force southwest into the mountains and escape south to rejoin the strike later. I consider this possibility fairly remote.
