Hey fighter squads.

Couple of quick questions for you.

1 - How long for a forward sweep to get to F20 at altitude (30K)?

2 - Having flows the IJ planes, what could the new IJ's do that would be totally unexpected? I am concerned a little. They know they can't fight the F6F straight up so what options do they have? I find it hard to believe they will be there waiting for us.

Thoughts?

Muskie-
I do not know where the CV will be, but I did test what you asked from what I could use offline.

Starting from 12,0 cross, climbspeed 180, flying direct towards F20. F6F 100% gas with a drop tank:

20 minutes to 30,000 ft
Approx 25 minutes to F20 at 30K+

The IJN can't do much creative. Only 12 can roll at T=0, and if they try to come out to intercept they will
simply get over whelmed, like we tried frame 1. Realize they see you on dar the moment you cross the 10
vertical line. So most of them must sit in tower until you crack dar. I'd recommend climbing east of the 10 line off radar,
turning west only with a good chunk of alt under us. Only show when you are on dar when formed up, at alt, and
most of the IJN sits in tower

Forgot to ask, how long can you stay at F20 before you need to rtb?

EDIT: Found the issue with my calculations. The hudrecord script looses data once in a while. Going forward I'll implement a script to cleanse the data before I publish. Numbers below have been corrected.

I am no expert on fighter planes. I flew the F6F and recorded some data and here are the results.

F6F - 100% + Drop Tank - Fuel Multiplier as set by the S3 arena (log on / log off then Free Flight)
Took off from a CV, with 100% + BST, 15ยบ flaps. Got gear, flaps up and switched off boost. Let her climb at a speed of 150.

Internal tank starts w/ 250 gallons. Burned out 50 gallons of this before switching to external. This is something I have seen fighter groups do so did the same.

Results
=====

Summary:
---------
+21 - 30K to 10x6
+31 - Over target
+55 - Must head back (24 minute loiter time)
+76 - Land back (~ 20 minutes to RTB and land) - This would be north of the 12x3 cross cause CV would have travelled ~25 miles in the mean time.

Details:
-------
It takes 83 miles of travel time and 21 minutes to get to 30K. As drawn the line from the 12x1 to the 10x6 is only about 50 miles. Hence one has to fly an indirect route to get here. Attached is one such an example of how this can be flown.

From there leveled out flying West to the 5x6 and then into the F20 area is a 57 mile or 10 minute journey. Fuel burn is uniform at about 5.7 Gallons per minute.
So we arrive over target with 223 gallons. It takes 13 minutes to RTB as the crow flies + a few minutes to slow down and land - so 85.5 gallons will be used up on RTB.
that leaves 223 - 85.5 = 137.5 gallons to loiter = 24 minutes of loiter time.

Note landing will be 10 miles south of where shown..
