bombers unable to achieve anything resembling altitude. Was unable to get anything more than about 200/240 fpm climb and by 24 k that dropped to less than 200 fpm....even n boost. she a fat lumbering pig.....determination cannot overcome physical libilities vis a vis damage modeling and climb rates.

Sleepy, what was your bomb load?

B17G in Warbirds is modeled with Tokyo Tanks making it way too heavy (like hauling an extra 13 500lb bombs) over the standard fuel load. Is it possible for the janitors to allow the B17G to load out 61% fuel to model a standard fuel load?

Weight
Empty: 31,780 lbs
Payload with standard fuel: 21,580 lb
With Tokyo tanks: 15,100 lb
with bomb bay tanks: 10,180 lb
Fuel, standard: 1,700 gallons (10,200 lb)
with Tokyo tanks: 2,780 gal (16,680 lb)
with bomb bay tanks: 3,600 gal (21,600 lb)

I concur with sleepy, I was trying the southern route for timings, directions, etc., and managed to get to 27K crossing the front line. The engines were at 114 degrees so levelled and stopped wep1. Engines cooled quickly but a/speed(i) dropped to 99 and the aircraft stalled, even after application of wep. I'm not sure what I might have done incorrectly, fuel load at the beginning indicated 512 mins which is way more than we need although I set it at 65%. I think the default of 100% can't be overridden?

Unless we can adjust and actually make a reasonable climb rate, the BG is going to be easy pickings for all axis aircraft types and of course the allied escort will have no advantage over axis piston fighters unless we can climb to 28+K.

Any thoughts?

Hmm, good catch. Oshix is correct that the B-17G currently carries a lot of unnecessary weight. With Tokyo tanks that's 6480 lb extra weight. A fuel capacity of 1700 gal gives the B-17G around 7.7 hours of flight time at 100% throttle. I don't really think there's any scenario in Warbirds that requires 12.6 hours of flight time with the 2780 gal Tokyo tanks. Is it possible to set the minimum fuel limit to 62% for this S3? I've just checked to see if Ient can implement a fuel capacity fix prior to frame 4, but otherwise I will make sure it's included with the coming update in March.

Note: (1700/2780)100 = 61% (rounded from 61.15011%)

Since sneaking along the southern border of the map and then go in from the9.4x would be quite ahistorical and "gaming the map", the shortest route to Berlin after breaking their radar is to fly straight from F54 to Berlin. (measuring with a ruler from the Axis DAR borders to Berlin).

Indeed Robert, that route was more or less the original suggestion until it was realised that route would also allow a huge amount of time for axis to plan, deploy and attack. In saying "gaming the map", are you preventing the southern route from being considered? Are we not allowed to play to strengths & weaknesses especially given the ability of the B17 to climb is akin to a homesick fridge in freefall.
