And thats where you come in Beaver:)

Just joking....but not a bad idea at tactical deception. Remaining fighters go back and pick up the real bombers to come in and deal death and destruction to the enemy.

Salute!

I like the dedicated mud movers in Tubs due to the Nord. At 10 - 12K we can "plink" and maybe even RTB for another go. Stalkers can go wreck mayhem in the Hellcats, huh?

OTOH, as suggested, a feint with Hellcats could really help. Downside is Tubs would only have time for one go.

I do not like the SBD for most of the buffs due to the requirement to dive bomb. Hard enuf for bases, but for tiny ships at a realistic altitude the Pk goes way down. And we can't fly the Hellcats!!!

Gums sends...

P.S. Nomads are down to 3 and flying as guests with UMM and Knights. We'll talk about it on the CO forum and remember we wanted to keep our original squad designation from back when the Earth was still cooling and we had WB v1.1

Correct Muskie!

Just so you know Gofly, NOE runs will get reported at 15 miles outside the ring, no sneaking into Truk. :(

Just to make sure that we are on the same page. Nomads, UMM and Knights fly the SBD or TBD. Knights have bombers and fighter guys. Only their fighter guys fly fighters, bomber guys fly bombers. Its what they signed up for. The USN has to have some disadvantages and covering TBDs and SBDs is one.

Damn you Jabo!

OK, Knights and UMM, question, do you want to level bomb boats like last frame or close 25 and possibly 24 (for 8pts a piece)? The level bombing didn't do as great against the ships as I thought. Out of the 23 ships sunk, only 10 were hit by bombs out of 14 TBD pilots. The remaining 13, 8 were taken out by the 352nd and 5 taken out by me.

If you want to try and close 25/24, what do you want to fly? The TBD is nice with the sight but the SBD can get higher (about 20K in 20min.) and go faster.

One last thing, I think if you guys want to go after boats again, do not bring AI? thoughts? The AI are not going to hit a boat but do supply some cover for the real TBD flyers BUT we lose 2pt's a piece. Last frame we gave away 12pts for AI kills. maybe that saved 6 real TBD's? maybe not?

Right now I am leaning on having the Buff's hit 25 and then 24, so I need to know what rides you want if that's what we do. AI would really help with that.

The NS will be in F6F and sweeping ships with the 127 embedded close escort. The LF6 flying forward high escort (30K+) to kill the 23rd, the 100th, AE, and 475th flying forward mid level (20K) sweep to push the IJ to the deck and kill them.

I "believe" the hardest time we will have is with the 23rd. They are going to climb to the stratosphere and I bet we can't get them to come down. So, LF6 is going to have to go up and pull them down.

I am also concerned that the IJ will park most of there planes until after the 1st sweep hoping to catch strikes heading home. We are going to have to be careful of this. If they can't fight us straight up, no reason to lift right away for them.

If the UMM/Nomads concur, I need a time hack for you to hit 25. We don't want to leave you guys out to dry like 1st frame.

We tried the low game and still got are asses kicked, wouldn't be surprised if they tried shooting for the moon, completely off Dar and hit us when we get fat and happy.

If firepower is an issue for going after large targets, I had a thought about employing the "droop snoop" concept. Heavy F6Fs fly formation with the a Norden equipped airplane, drop when lead drops at altitude. Requires a fair bit of precision though. Its just as easy to shmear the zeros over Truk and have strike groups come in after.

Hopefully weather doesn't cut our numbers significantly like last frame.

If they shoot for the moon, it gives an advantage. The Zero does not dive well and once you hit 400 MPH the plane starts shaking and you need to pull out slowly. At that speed, the zero has little or no control until it slows down. ;)

Over 250 the zero is like a lead slead with 5 degree heading input:) Faster you go, the less control you have in that thing...

Tight formation of Human flyers with ALL the AI set to trail D20 (so it looks like 2 formations) might be worth a thought....in theory it should mimic your formation I would think.

We need the 20k fighters to be front, top, back over the bombers if we go that route..and you need to dive in with the zekes since they will be fast and hard to maneuver when they do that.. Hit and out, then up, cyclic attacks from the respective squads.

And did I miss RCAF tasking?

If we are to go for fields let me suggest we take 29/15 and possibly also 11/16 in another sortie. 24 has some targets which are pretty hard. 13 and 12 need less bombs than 24 (See my Planning Tool thread).

We prefer to carry as much ORD as possible and hence the choice of ride is TBD. From the 12x1 to 29/15 is 110 miles, if we climb to 15K and then cruise 174mph or so we get there at +45minutes of whenever we start. RTB to the same CV which would be at about 12,2,1 is roughly a 90 mile trip back hence another 31minutes so roughly 76 minutes of flight.

Something like this..

Actually I thought the level bombing on the ships went well. The problem is getting there without getting shot down. I don't think we have enough assets to hit a field and even if we do, losing 1 or 2 can change the outcome.

They know our tactics and this stinks so we have to be really sneaky. What worked in frame 2 was surrounding of TBDs with fighters and even doing that we lost 5 on the way (One was me. Damn target).

From an IJN standpoint frame 1 we noticed many F6F fighters stayed high, we slaughtered your strikes down low.

Frame 2 your sweep was much more aggressive, and came in to find & engage our zekes and fight. We got
slaughtered, we lost 80% of our zekes sortie 1.

I would pick a target rich part of the map, move in with your totally dominant F6F's and fight it out like frame 2.
Bring in your level bombers when you see fit. From JLordi's videos its obvious the F6F's slaughter static ships.
Maybe assign a few fighters to pile up the ship kills like you did frame 2?
