JG51 along with LF6 was charged with defense in the western sector. We rolled from F9 in BF110s with drop tanks patrolled to the south. On our second sortie we got out of our DAR coverage for just a minute and were bounced by 23rd in higher Hurris. We lost three aircraft and two pilots KIA in the encounter but the rest were able to get to our MOB and the 23rd retreated back to their perch just off our DAR. At that point it was pointless to go all the way back to F9 and roll only to have the frame end before we could find any action.
