JABO ... All these pilots listed below are guilty of breaking rule number 9. If there are more I will find them and let you know. Quick field closures to start the frame meant they were on the front line also.

All from the 4th FG:
    kelly-
    icyplt
    grilem
    ccajun
    billpe
    -light

Quote:
9. Squad Basing - each airfield type has a limited number of squad steps it may base during a frame. Squads are assigned a homebase for the entire frame and must not use any other base during the night unless it is to refuel and then proceed back to their homebase to replane. If a squad homebase is closed all pilots not stuck in the tower must fly to either F10 or F6 and conduct operations from their for the rest of the night. Any pilots stuck in the tower are done for the night.

Majority of these pilots rolled from 22 to start the frame for the quick strikes and never landed there again. We eventually closed it and these same pilots never went to F10.

-light for example started this frame at 89. He landed at 87 for whatever reason and when he rerolled at 87 he did not RTB to 89 to start an offensive, he went to field 91 and dropped bombs.

More to follow if I find more.....

Looks like the 23rd may have had a few too.

We also had one or two that may or may not be in violation. As a group we established 81 & 83 as our initial bases. After losses we had a couple pilots move from 83 to 81 as their home base. When looking at the rule on an individual pilot basis they would be in violation. When looking at them on a group basis they would be fine.

LF 6 did the same with 81/83 in the first frames. JG 51 was using 83, we and TK were on 81. I think it was was frame 2 where JG 51 lost a step for various reasons over the course of the evening so TK (1 pilot) and us (5 pilots) moved to 83 because 81 area was hot and becoming difficult to land, rearm, and take off to an effective altitude.

As individual units I can see the gray area, but as the established LF 6 we didn't go outside I think. Jabo assigned no penalty then. I missed the first engagement to know if the 4th lost anyone. Perhaps they were rotating their FS around their "assigned" fields? I have not dug deep to find out.

I guess I bent the rules then. I assumed 81 and 83 were assigned to the 352nd with only 1 step assigned to 81. I didn't teleport, but I flew in and out of 81 my last sortie when there were only a few bluenoses left in action.

What we might have here, is an interesting interpretation of the rules.

I think the 23rd was good. They were assigned GAF 76 and 2 which hold 2 steps each or a total of 24 planes. The 23rd is listed as a 3 step squad and had 13 pilots sortie during Frame 4. All their pilots used these fields except -kenl-, who probably accidently took off from 78 on his first sortie. One or two might have landed at other fields to refuel, but they always returned to their home fields. They, like other squads, after losses, used the two fields interchangeably.

Now the 4th appears to have been assigned 3 fields. The 4th is listed as a 4 step squad, and they had 21 pilots show up. They were assigned GAF 22, GAF 89, and LAF 87. These 3 fields can hold 8 steps or a total of 48 aircraft. Closing any one of them would still allow them to operate all their aircraft out of the other two. I think the 4th also used their fields interchangeably.

IMO, I don't think Jabo wanted a squad to be assigned multiple fields with a total capacity of double their step value. I understand the allies did it to get in some quick strikes at the beginning of the frame. It would be like if the Axis assigned a squad to a forward field and also a field a little farther back, so they wouldn't have to go all the way to LAF 6 if their forward field was closed. We could even assign squads unused bases in the north and south parts of the map, so we could shift our resources where they were needed.

The rules are a little unclear on this. From rule 9:

Quote:
...Squads are assigned a homebase for the entire frame...

Some squads need more than 1 base to hold their steps. Should they be allowed to be assigned enough bases to hold double their number? I don't think so.

If the rule is to interpret "squads" have a home base, instead of "pilots" within a squad have a home base. Then in frame 5 jugggo should base everyone at all the fields as long as when we need to refuel and rearm we don't overstep that field as a group.

I am waiting for jabo to rule on this. In frame 3, JG-51 had to go back to 83 and not use 81 as per jabo (we had to go to our "homebase"). If other squads broke this rule throughout the series then let us all fly ju52's (at least the 52 has gunners) and c47's in frame 5. All I know is JG-51 did not break this rule in this series. For this reason is why I looked into who rolled at F22.

Its always nice to see that players have interest in the Rules. It will be interesting to see how Jabo interprets his Rules on this one.

It would seem that the most salient part of the observation is not within the "intent" of the Rules.

From what I remember jabo allowed the 4th to take off from forward fields for a quick special ops, and then rebase at our frame 4 "home field". But I agree such special ops fieldings are not mentioned in the rules, and maybe was unfair as the axis were never informed they could do so to.
