THE WINTER WAR June 1941

FRAME 3 - THE CONTINUATION WAR -AXIS (Finnish)

Airmen,

Let me lay it all out...

Our suspicions about Russian intentions were correct.
The Russians have occupied the Baltic states and have installed puppet regimes there.
A tough and bloody battle was fought in the Winter War, but we preserved Finland's sovereignty.

It has now been 15 months since the end of the Winter War.
We have looked on Germany with skepticism in the past and tried to negotiate a trade deal with the
United Kingdom. However with the Fall of France and the UK cutting off all trade
with the Nordic countries, a Western-oriented policy is no longer an option.

Now the Russians are demanding mining rights and pro communist groups are organizing riots.

With the impending invasion of the Soviet Union, German Chancellor Adolf Hitler has had to reassess
his position regarding the selling of arms to Finland. In exchange, Finland will allow
German troops to transit through Finland.

Now, is the perfect time to regain territory lost to the Russians.

We must strike in the North to cut off supplies moving on the Murmansk Railway.

Meanwhile Finnish forces will launch an offensive through the Karelian Isthmus and the Ladoga Karelia.

FINNISH MISSION TARGETS
We must support our ground forces by weakening the Russian dug-in strong points along the front line. This will help our troops to break through the enemy lines and save many Finnish lives. Our scout planes have also pinpointed large Russian supply depos. It is critical we destroy these to starve their tanks and soldiers of fuel and supplies.

10 points (Russian Defensive dug-in positions)
F51, F59, F67, F74, F68, 69

10 points
train on the Murmansk railway.

25 points (Critical supply depos)
F56, F72

Gents, since were are finally on the offensive, I suggest the entire axis target 1 specific area at a time and overwhelm the enemy. Once we take a sector, we can then as a group move to the next area to attack.

I suggest: (open to ideas)

1. strike Southern sector and close 67, 74.
2. strike middle sector and close 68, 69
3. strike Northern sector and close 51, 59.

However, while we attack the Southern zone, we could send a rouge team of 2 buff and 2 escort, up north to strike 56, and additionally 51, or 59 if there are any bombs left.
It would need to be a quick get in get out job....
but could yield us some quick closure points.
And would make the allies have to dedicate some defenders up North.

I would suggest the 'rouge squadron' enter enemy territory about 30 min into the frame while we have the enemy focusing on defending the S.

open for ideas and comments

I like the idea, Nookyb. Let's all go south, with a sneak attack on the northern supply depos.

For the southern main attack, we probably need to have at least 4 bombers, the rest in fighters.

Should we have the 4th FG dedicate 4 bomber pilots for the southern strike, with the 352nd sending two bomber pilots on the northern sneak strike?

Also does the 23rd, NS, 69th want to fly bombers or fighters?

Our fighters best altitude vs the enemy is at 10 000 ft. I'd suggest 10k be the bombers altitude. If we go higher then the Russian planes will have a critical speed advantage.

See this thread for fighters comparisons each frame.

I suspect the 23rd could supply 2 bombers if needed, grumpy and I. I don't think slapshot relishes flying bombers but would if I asked him, I believe. If we are in buffs I'd like the target list early enough to dry run it offline at least once.

67 and 74 would be first.. I think 4th will hit these.

Suggestion for aircraft distribution, as we must start with all fighters in even numbers:

4th FG - 9
3x 239
2x hawk
2x G.50
2x Fokker

352nd FG - 9
2x Hawk
2x 239
2x Fokker
2x G.50

23rd + 8th + knights - 3
2x Hawk

Any excess pilots in the squads get a B-239, G.50, or fokker
