Lf6 upped from Field 50 and we split into two elements of 3 as we intended on striking two separate posts. We met with mixed results as we destroyed very few targets and met with Russian La-5's which had a very noticeable airspeed advantage at lower altitudes. Some were able to egress, others like myself were shot down.
Throughout the night we engaged off and on with the Russian aircraft and found their airspeed advantage difficult to overcome; out turning them seemed to be a 50/50 proposition.
Eventually, I personally felt that the Russians were keeping low to maintain their airspeed advantage so I took off in Ju-88's and proceeded to complete two sorties; one with full cover from the 4th (thanks guys!) and the second unescorted. Targets were destroyed during both sorties and at least one field was closed. On the second sortie, a lone La-5 began to take up the chase and I went into wild S-turns that kept him off target for the most part. Unfortunately, he damaged my elevator but soon after he left after I put a few rounds into his plane. (Note: I was using the normal player login, and as soon as I began my extreme S-turns, my AI continued to fly straight and level, leaving me to deal with the bandit by myself.) I made it back to Field 50 and angered it in with the field in sight.
