Seems like everyone was on the same page of the play book and it showed.
Fighters did a fairly good job over Dieppe. It seemed more fighter engagements happened away from the fleet for a good part of the night, which also benefitted us.
Bombers rained down destruction on the fleet off Dieppe essentially all night.
The only surprise of the night was the initial daring NOE run for a quick arrival at their ships by a gaggle of spits. For a few precious seconds I saw two different displays of noe Allies going feet wet on the way South. This caused a change of plan for the 4th as they were notified to watch for them. They were already on a close vector to where the noe’s might cross their path. With good SA they found the noe spits and engaged. The 4th tied them up for at least 10-15 minutes which gave the bombers more time to drop ordinance. I believe they only lost one airframe in that engagement. Well done! I also believe this action upset their schedule for capping their shipping for most of the night as well as making them jettison drop tanks…as some appeared to rtb before heading to their fleet.
All squads seemed to execute bombing runs well as ships were sinking on and off all night it seemed. Heck, even WLDBIL sunk a carrier I believe!!! I did notice the dancing CV syndrome from 12k. The radar picture of our bomber streams, with some escorts, headed into Dieppe was a sight to behold!
I want to thank slapshot and oshix for volunteering to cover our radars after dropping a bomb on shipping first sortie. They did get to join in after a bit, but they deserve the kudos for hanging in there. We should have all our radar for next frame unless I missed something.
The allies did manage to hit many structures. There is no way we had enough resources to cover the coast as well as inland targets. I can’t imagine they outscored us. Heck I think we sunk 4 CV’s, that’s 56 points to start.
