TK rolled only 3 pilots for frame 1. Our CO and exec were away on R&R and missed their connecting
flights to be back in time.
Tracer, mspiro and hutani rolled our zeke5's from f12 when given the green light by jabo. Our evening as
scramblers was spent climbing within the atoll confines and being vectored to assorted fights both high and low.
At no time were we ever able to gain an altitude advantage over the large F6F groups of enemy we encountered.
Early on we assisted the Haze in a very high altitude fight; we had our main success clearing our ships down low
on the deck vs enemy torpedo planes and their F6F escorts. Later we lost Hutani and Tracer in high fights again
vs large numbers of enemy F6F's, who were escorting jabo F6F's.
