This had to be one of the worst frames for me to call from the "big chair". The RADAR coverage or lack there of, made this difficult to see from my perspective. After viewing some of the videos already posted, I wish the merge with the bomber group would have come together like I had drawn it up on paper.

Hopefully after JABO tallies up his numbers, we will still have a lead going into the last frame.

Thanks everyone for what we did accomplish.

It's always an honor.

----------------------------------

I did roll for one sortie and after being oiled and deadstick by the time I got back to the field, I had to maneuver to avoid being shot (thanks dobs for the 6 call) but had lost to much E the plane rolled over while trying to ditch.

The idea was good, however, in retrospect, we should have had more coverage at 206 (we only had 6 show up for our squad), because after an AI took out the DAR (there must have been 18-24 converging on the field from different angels) we were blind for the entire Western side of the Map.

While watching the videos, I saw the bomber flight routes, they went right over 206 and closed it (no DAR to give warning), just mark 2 eyeball to see them inbound from the tower.

We got a fair number of AI, but couldn't stop them all.

F206 seemed to have a hard landing set up. Almost every time someone landed, the lost a gear or 2. Caused at least 2 deaths when both gear went at once and the plane flipped over.

I deviated slightly and pushed North from the box since I knew the big ass Dar hole was already there. That is how A) we ended up tangled with the 352nd early, and B) found the buffs on RTB.

If you look at my video, dawger has made a vectoring grid that is really nice.

I will post it up for others to use if they like, but if all don't have it...doesn't do GCI much good.

Expect a very similar game plan for Frame 5. 475th will be in 109s and acting as scouts. I'll start a thread up.

Nice job Drdart. Tough frame to CO with no Dar.

No RADAR coverage, add a touch of realism I think. :)

I would disagree. I have said this a thousand times over the years but it doesnt get much traction.

The radar in Warbirds should be treated as the complete system of electronic means, visual observers and radio/telephone communication.

Since a large formation is VISIBLE to the naked eye well beyond 10 miles away this S3 is not realistic.

Warbirds seems to trend ever towards hide and seek, shelter in the ack, stay within ditch range and S3 seems to promote that with its lack of incentive to aggressively find and destroy the enemy. One life is fine to promote more realistic behavior but that needs to be coupled with objectives that make it impossible to win without directly engaging the enemy air force or what is the point of three hours on a Sunday night?

I can remember the day when NOE missions were Special Ops and sometimes it involved an NOE raid. If I remember correctly it was 2/3 per series.

IMHO we need to go back to having some Special ops missions during an S3.

I see the purpose but too much clutter IMO. I'm also not a fan of the current "9-key" grid system as it is not very intuitive to newcomers, but it is the established system. Hell, once learned it is not that difficult to use, vector to, or otherwise report position.

Unless no one knows what I am talking about then please, let's come up with an intuitive process that uses the default tools at hand. Perhaps in the General Forum, or CO forum we need to establish common baselines for side operations and intrasquad communication (such as everyone talking meters on the Axis side). It would only serve us as a community and the S3 quality if were able to have well oiled operations machines on both sides.

475 FG will be using the grid because we have found it more effective than other means

Dobs probably wont make it mandatory for anyone else but the inability to communicate precise locations quickly is why I created it and it works well and can be understood without explanation.

Perhaps, one of you chaps that makes DTF's could make a overlay that would show the grid within the grid, so everyone would know where the location is ;)

Ohshix has made a .dtf that overlays the map with the 9-key coordinates for the grid box you're currently in; it does help save a few brain processing cycles.
