I agree about the blast radius, but there is no way a plane at 1k should be affected. Like you I have and others have launched torps even at 600' and nothing like this has happen before even with a wingman next to me.

I truly believe they were hit from AI bombers above. It was mayhem over the ships. We had ships blowing up all around us and we were on the north side where no one was suppose to be bombing.

p.s. just out of curiosity, why were they dropping torpedoes from 1K? :D

Did some testing around this. If you are near a boat when the torpedo hits you will die. I think the torpedo is like a 4K bomb or so. You have to break away after you drop.

I have not been able to establish exactly how far you need to be, but you can test, simply drop and follow it to the boat and you will blow up. Not knowing much about real life torpedos I have no idea if this is realistic behavior or not. I am guessing not.

On your post script MuskieZZ you can actually level drop a torpedo from 10K and it still works!! go figure..

blast is close to same as a 1600 lb bomb and radius is 1200 ft. With a flawed ship damage model its what had to be done to get torps to work right.
No, not what I'd like but....until delving into ship damage files ( which have done some of) we kinda stuck with it.
That's part of the reason for blast radius on bombs too, hits out on the ends of the ship don't do as much damage as hits on center of ships....I admit, it was a terrible issue getting em balanced out like they are, and its not as I would really like.....but ....making time to work on em....( shrugs) time is the enemy for volunteers.
I can see where it may not be a problem in the main but this scenario does place a great many airplanes in close proximity all dropping ord.
Should have seen this coming for this scenario and published some warnings but with all the other things going on...it slipped my mind.
you know me, and I have always been happy to share settings for planning purposes.

Ya, this would have been nice to have known prior to dropping our torps. Noflyz, I think we should have a hard deck of 1500' for dropping our torps.

ship damage and torp settings same in main giving ya plenty to practice with

I have never seen anyone get taken out in the MA by torp blast Sleepy. So you might want to look else where for the answer. Where, I am not sure. This is the first EVER in the S3 this has happen and the we had plenty of torp drops in the S3 series.

I know Sleepy. What I am saying this has never happen to us in the S3 nor the MA. This is the first time it has happen here.
