We had too much gas on board but my big mistake was in not turning south immediately away from the radar contacts.

A single F6F can tie up a bunch of Zeke 5's up high if he starts with the altitude advantage. Once they had visual on us they just did speed runs through the formation.

I would suggest we park the first 12 as high and as far away as we can get them and hold them from the fight until the scramblers spot the bandits. F6F's at 30K are useless if we aren't up there with them and when they descend the reserve 12 can make life miserable for them

As far as gas goes, what TK did worked well. We took 50% gas and drop tanks. We climbed and cruised off the droppers, then
when things got dicey we dropped the tanks and had just fighting fuel onboard.

Good move Tracer, that is what 127 did for the most part. at 50% gas you have about 31 minutes at 100% throttle.
