The 4th JG took off from F6 Hammam near the city of Tunis. Our jagdgeschwader consisted of mainly Messerchmitts with two Focke Wulfs and three Bf 110's for bomber intercept. The Allied had 2:3 to 1:2 numbers on our forces during the whole day of operations. We engaged a full squadron of Spitfires east of F81 Medierda above 8000 m (26000 ft) and fueled a few of them but neither side lost any airplanes. A few Ju 87's were also launched for ground support and seem to have inflicted severe casualties at the artillery positions of F31 Mateur and F72 Djebel Abiad.

During the majority of operations the 4th JG defended the western front. We tried to always keep the fight above 4000 m (16000 ft) where our fighters have the speed advantage, but had to sometimes go low in order to intercept P-38G Gabelschwanz Teufels. A large formation of Heinkel 111's were reported to have operated without any support, getting slaughtered by the Allied fighters. The 4th JG got to the scene later when only remnants of the Heinkels remained, and a large fight commenced. Later on we tried to intercept two B-24 formations to no avail, losing a few Focke Wulfs in the process.

During the rest of the day there were also several minor skirmishes and it is believed that Allied fighter losses were higher than our 4th JG losses during these fights. At the end of day our geschwader defended the southern front destroying several Allied fighters, with claims of downing a couple of renown Allied aces, for minimal losses.

Lessons learned
* We should keep striving to fight above 20000 ft at all times, hard deck 15000 ft.
* The Fw 190A-4 packs one helluva punch.
* Ai He-111 missions should only be launched when we are organised to escort them, otherwise they are free kills for the Allies.
* We need more pilots to show up from all squads as we are currently outnumbered.
