i want to explain to every C.O. why i throw a bitch about orders..
i have a small group of guys 5 total.. only 2 of which fly in the main arena's on a regular basis.. now i have 3 pilots that only fly the S3.. so when we are constantly recieving the shit details that the bigger squads dont want to do well they pass it along to the smaller groups .
good case scenerio last night frame again on the back burner .. shit detail.. i had 1 pilot log before the frame even started,.. and 1 logged after the first hop..both being pissed off.. my bitch about orders is for me it is for them. for i do not want them to quit warbirds.. but its comming to that point with them..
now i throw out this bitch for their sakes only to be bad mouthed by memebers of the bigger squads and one guy had a = to his call sign.this man needs to be shot he should know better..so i ask .does this promote good feelings ..for these guys have no idea what it takes to try to keep these guy playing..now their ire is up over being bad mouthed my member for larger squads that dont know a thing because they not a C.O. they just a plain ole stick
my guys want to play they want to feel they are making a differance only to be dissed and bad mouthed is utter bull crap in my book
since we are a small squad and only 2 pilots that fly in the main we seldom ever get a chance to recrit a cadet.. because larger squads have already scarfed them up.. but they do not train their pilot.for i see it every time i logg in they make the same ole mistakes every time and are so easy to kill. because they dont get proper training..
id love to have some new recruits AE's love to teach wing tactics.. now im not the best pilot in the arenas i dont claim to either but i do teach good solid wing tactics.. and believe you me if a catch and of my guys doing anythin un ethical i eat them out.. my biiggest pet peeve is the HO..
it all about Honor with me and ill let you kow about it any time i see unethical behavior from my guys .. now i have stopped monitoring the 100 chl ..im tired of hearing all the arguing on that chl. so i do miss out on the <S> other pilots give me..for this i am truely sory but it less stressful to me..so please guys dont take it offensive is i dont reply on the 100
now i have been approched by other smaller squads to join forces .. i would consider this if we can possable get some type of programmig change to squads rosters .. other that that it will not happen
ok guy thats my lil bitch ot the day

Hey Besea. I think you are onto a good approach by joining forces with other smaller squads. That way you can keep your squad identity in all the arenas but form a larger operational group for the S3s We recently merged JG51, JG77 and TK into Luftflotte 6 and it is starting to work out well. It takes awhile to work out the differences in squad styles but with a common goal things smooth out pretty quickly. It is definitely worth a try.

I feel your pain there besea. If it was anyone in my squad PM me. It does take alittle time with a merger so be patient if you do it. You guys need any help let us know.

Salute!

I also feel your pain, Besea.

The reason for forming the Nomads was what Briar pointed out. Easier to assign a mission and we had severe losses of pilots. So we banded together, kept original squad data for records, and became the vagabonds we are.

If the AE wants to be our dedicated escort, we'd like that. There's always a mission for a small group and let the big squads so what they do best. OTOH, I can see assigning one flight/step of a big outfit to gang up with the tiny squads. They don't have to fly as one big gorilla, ya think?

When it's obvious we will only have only two or three of us, then we try to hook up with another group. In fact we joined with NS last Sunday night to have at least 5 or 6 strikers for the assigned mission. Worked well, as we did not fly the typical NS profile ( those guys are in a class of their own WRT that).

respectfully,

Gums sends...

Besea - ~S~ Sir. I wholehearted agree and can co-miserate with you.

I will tell you this...I had NO problems being shot down in Frame 1 by you. I consider it an honor that a Blue Plane guy from a small squad got me. I know that is offtopic a bit, but my perception is predicated on the simple fact that us small squad guys do get chit detail - even when I am COing a gig.

Good complaint and I am anxious to read what others think.

<S> Besea,
I spoke with Jman tonight who came up with our orders in Sunday morning. He had no idea where the exact position of the carries was going to be, and he said once it was known that they were off in the boondocks and you pointed it out he offered to move you to one of the island bases, which he said you declined. I hope it wasn't him that said something negative because he didn't remember any additional exchange. Feel free to contact me if so and we can take that part offline if you like.

I do know how you feel about being a smaller squad. Looking back on the S6 score pages we had more than our share of frames with 4 or 5 pilots in attendance. When you look back to DS Frame 1, we only had 4 pilots, 2 of which are still with the 352nd today. We made the decision that we needed to recruit to become competitive, and with slow growth and getting lucky with some of the right pilots things fell into place.

We're now at a place where recruiting is frozen with the exception of friends, family, and returning pilots and we have added three new names recently: returning pilot with a new callsign, the 12 year old son of a pilot, and the former RL and virtual squadmate of a pilot. I do attempt to find new pilots a home before they receive one of the "3-minute invites" from a group or two. If you do want referrals let me know and I'll do what I can to send guys your way.

I know you already know all this, but the unfortunate (for the smaller groups) fact is that the larger squads are going to get the most attention in the orders. It might be a good idea to combine forces for some of the smaller groups but I would hate to see you lose your identity. I'd rather see you grow back to a 2 or 3 step group.

Maybe we need to go to Jabo and get a waiver that squads under 1 step can base anywhere without overstepping restrictions. I think he's already pretty lenient with the squads of 1 or 2, maybe we need to make it "less than 6" where you have freedom to base.

Post subject:  Re: smaller squads get dump on

I always try to make orders appropriate to the size of the squad when I CO, and have found that only a few squads are problematic when making orders.

Some squads just do what they do and don't really give a shit about what a CO/plan needs them to do, so they usually get assigned accordingly. maybe size makes them think that is ok,

or maybe it is just coincidence that they are large. perhaps it is time to change our evaluation of squad success/failure. like say k/d / pilot hour and reward accordingly.

however larger squads should pull the weight both in orders and as an attitude, otherwise it hurts the game. they maybe should not necessarily be the first ones into a fight but they damn sure ought to be

making sure they are the last MFers to leave a big fight and that they are not abandoning a smaller squad to a larger enemy force. because that seems to happen all the time.

i.e. we smaller squads do notice how lithe, flexible, and quick, some of you larger squads are at managing the GB of a little squad, and how conversely cumbersome, lead-footed, and timid you become when

the nme is in greater numbers. that tends to annoy. standing down when you have had a rough night even though you still outnumber your next largest teammate squad by 2x also gets noticed by the

smaller squads. I guess larger squads should keep in mind that throwing your weight around should always benefit your team and the s3 in general and not just you.

they should also be mindful of the duty and burden that comes along with hogging all the players, and creating the environment where being huge and comparatively ineffective is the only way to survive.

i.e. if you are going to hog all the players, then it is only right that a permanent primary mission of the larger squads should be to look out for the smaller squads on your team.

otherwise who will care when you state your opinions on "the s3 spirit" or whatever ...

here is part of a 10 page thread from another game that explores the issues encountered when there are disproportionately larger squads operating in the same environment as smaller squads.

a lot of different perspectives here from other people facing similar issues, just thought it would be easier than pointing fingers in here to express our feelings on the matter.

Whats a \\\"Mega Squad\\\"?
« Reply #34 on: October 23, 2006, 04:19:59 PM »

they way i see it, HTC set a squad limit....for a reason. we can debate the reason all we want, my guess would be so that one group could not dominate an arena with numbers, which affects gameplay. maybe a year or 2 before the split, the mega squads were a factor, but that was when they would face off against each other. yada yada yada, things changed, gameplay was suffering, so much so, that HTC felt they needed to change directions. The point is, that a limit was set for number of people in squads, that limit was in turn exploited in a sense, and now a change to try to return to the game HTC invisioned (just guessing). So in a sense, mega squad issues, are issues created by the squad leaders because they decided they needed more than 32 lemmings:) (guess better post that that is a joke, because i now how tempermental many around here are).

so, do we really want to go into furball vs. strat guy mode. both sides have been harsh on each other. it's not, one side was slightly less harsh. when furballers complained about gameplay, they were told to go to the DA, get a new arena, don't like the whorde fight them all yourself, this is war! Furballers responded by insulting that mentality and claiming strat guys have ruined AH. fortunately HTC agreed that gameplay/community was suffering, leading to "furballers have ruined AH....in particular Corky." that is a brief history up until this point. now we are reaching a new chapter, i call it "megasquad and you" it will mostly be about the effects of mega-squads, but with undertones of previous battles fought between the valiant furballers and the loathsome straters. (again, just kidding for those who are unable to tell)

Frame two Jabo gave his OK to combine the smaller squads with the larger - I think it will set a new precedent and I for one will stay on him about it. It is nice as the frame CO to have small group you can send here or there but much easier if everyone is in a few main squads.

We became a composite squadron for qood reasons. We are now much like the Nomads and made up or 3 squadrons. We know Thor is one of those small squads that is always welcome to fly with us. We don't believe in those mega size squads but like a lean mean squadron and enlist the talents from other ones. This has worked out really well for us and enjoy working with other squads.

Besea, you have made many good points here.
