Whilst my wife was cleaning out some old files she ran across some of old maps and recon drawings from "maxoverlays" and "Glarsmaps" describing the Med terrain, New Guinea terrain airfields etc. also was a listing of all squad roles and A/C that were participating in an S3 that went by the name of Clash at Rabual. This was printed out on the 13th of January 2001- and the listing is as follows numbers in parenthesis indicated squad Turn outs. IJN role, 1st BFS (14), JG 5 (3), JG 14 (18), JG 26 (4),157th FBG (8), 401 RCAF (13), 417 RCAF ( 10), 1st ACG (8), KG 2 (4), JG 2 (8), JG 77 (4) 416 RCAF ( 8) Axis total 108 USN/USMC/RNZAF/USAAF/RAAF roles- JG 54 (11), Night stalkers (12), 31st FG (18), 4th FG (7), 44th FS (20), 82nd FG (5), 100th FBG (7), 303 RAF (12), 305th HBG (10), 353nd FG (15), 457th HBG (9), Smoking Wrecks (2), Gb40 (2), DoD (5), Texas Tornadoes (9) Total Allied 154. This brought back some good memories, and reminded me how time flies (no pun intended) Swede- S/L 416 RCAF, reaching for my cane, shawl and rheumatism medicine and on the way to my rocking chair......... (I hope) |

So many squads along the way. So many pilots that died a virtual death and never returned. Always good memories for sure. |
