Post subject:  CTK Frame 2 Summary

http://www.squadselectseries.com - updated maps and score summary

Both sides launched a major high altitude attack by their bombers at the start of the frame. The VVS coordinated an attack on 21 by two groups of B25s with cover from P39s. Ack in the area was taken out and the medium field there heavily damaged. About half of the bomber force was lost to intercepting 109s hurting the ability of the VVS to attack later in the frame. The Luftwaffe sent a large group of Ju88s heavily escorted by 109s to the large airfield 32 and was able to close it and only suffered 1 bomber loss.
The strong numbers of 109s and their qualitative advantage kept the Soviets hamstrung for most of the night though losses in fighters was almost equal. It was the heavier losses in twin-engine a/c that hurt the Russians with their losing 16 to only 2 enemy bombers.
A few Il2s continued to give the axis problems but generally they had their way with operations later in the frame with many of the 109s after achieving air superiority descended to bomb tanks and take out fields.
The axis closed 4 fields and destroyed 4 AI tanks during the night. 294 is not closed because Ju88s bombed it to help its closure. This is not a target for twin-engine a/c. The Russians managed to close down two fields and sank 3 AI freighters.

The score is now 160 VPs to 95 VPs for the Axis.

NOTES
1 - tough series for the VVS given that they dont have the numbers advantage they should have. Since its basically an even event now all scoring is the same and bufftuff/otto will be increased to help give the VVS at least one advantage over their opponents. The IL2 and B25s should be tougher to bring down.
2 - reported FPS issues near 142 from 10.
3 - most field problems fixed but please report any issues.

Thanks for working the bugs out of this new terrain.
Frame 3 is after US Thanksgiving so we have a bye this weekend.

EDIT

The "Incident at F-294" merely exemplifies that all nuances of the Rules have meaning. The Rules giveth and the rules taketh away:

No doubt about it, the Rules provide that certain fields cannot be attacked by twin-engine aircraft.

7. Aircraft Types - each squad has a list of a\c types in the A/C Table that they may fly during a series. There are no limits on how many of each type a squad may fly or in how many frames but it must be noted that airfields are designated either single-engine or twin-engine fields for basing and twin-engine types may only attack specific field locations. This should provide a variety of a/c in the series.

11. Ground Targets...Twin-engine a/c may only attack the following field location types;

AIRFIELD, LARGE(RDF)
AIRFIELD, MEDIUM(RDF)
AIRFIELD, SMALL(RDF)
AIRFIELD, GRASS(RDF)
SUPPLY DEPOT, SMALL
SUPPLY DEPOT, LARGE
RAILYARD, SMALL
RAILYARD, LARGE
PORT, SMALL
PORT, LARGE
INDUSTRY, CITY(RDF)
INDUSTRY
OIL REFINERY, SMALL
OIL REFINERY, LARGE
OIL FIELD
HYDROELECTIC DAM
COASTAL DEFENCES, HEAVY(RDF)

IF one were to discontinue reading at "Coastal Defenses" you might have a bomber drop a bomb on an inappropriate location :(

Salute!

I feel your pain, Wolfie.

The colors are so close to each other on the legend, that it's tuff.

We really need different symbols to make both legal fields and legal tgts more clearly defined, ya think?

I would also suggest we not limit targets to certain aircraft types.

Comrade Gums sends....

P.S. Those buff pigs that the Capitalists loaned us suck!!! Seeya in the bar after the series is over.
