Much different frame second time around. The new MA settings seem to be working out.

Japanese changed tactics and sent down a large bomber force through the slot that hit the main American bases on the Florida Islands. Many buildings were destroyed but the low and slow Wildcats soon caught up to the Betties and shotdown most of them in a long running fight. Later in the evening a few lone Betties would sneak in and hit the main airfields on Guadalcanal causing some damage. The same Betties dropped high on the US CV in the south just missing the carrier near the end of the night.

Meanwhile the US divebomber force was hitting New Georgia taking on 43 and 45 causing extensive damage there before losing most of the force to contaminated gas that caused many a/c to ditch near the coastwatcher location on Tetepare.

Japanese zeros were all over the northern tip of Santa Isabel Island strafing down and bombing the newly captured seaplane base there. F33 was closed by their repeated efforts and much damage to newly landed supplies occurred. Not to be outdone a lone group of TBDs searched out and sunk several Japanese ships in the northern range of water and near the end of the night they braved the heated AAA from the escort group to sink the Japanese CV.

Fighter action was more heated and historic this frame around with the Wildcats coming out on top shooting down 23 zeros and 9 betties during the night. The A6M3 did much better shooting down 11 Wildcats, 4 TBDs and 1 SBD.

Allies still lead but its closer after Frame 2 - 128 to 118

NOTES:
1. Frame 3 will be a storm frame with low light and clouds at all altitudes. Only one CV group for both sides is operating in the southern body of water as indicated on the PDF map. The front has moved forward again with the US landings in New Georgia. The base at 33 is closed but they have 43, 45 and 50 now in operation on the islands there. Please check CV routes in the provided PDFs for each side.
2. Issue with artifacts out to sea and sunken field at F28 resolved. Expect another update for the terrain only this week. Pilots killed at F28 or due to update mix up will have their deaths edited from the log.
3. Please test the new settings in the S3 arena or MA and provide feedback. Still a work in progress but the guys are doing a great job getting them right. Without feedback and testing its pretty hard and takes much longer to deploy.

In the rules there are no provisions for field capture.

Not capture during the frame but a moving front between frames. SITREPs so to speak.

From the rules:
Quote:
14. Frame Damage - fields ruled closed during play will remain so for the rest of the series, they will be destroyed before the next frame begins with all associated objects.
Any partial damage will rebuild between frames, only those fields closed will be carried over from frame to frame.
Many fields have attached static ship targets and these must go down to for field closure.
Trees, tower and AAA are not needed for field closure.
Some fields may become reopened if captured by the moving front.
