The Next S3 series will feature the largest Naval battle in History and the highest casualty battle for US troops. Battle of Layte Gulf and Luzon.
Frame 1 Oct 1944 - Battle of Layte Gulf part 1 PTO terrain Frame 2 Oct 1944 - Battle of Layte Gulf part 2. (Luzon terrain) Frame 3 Jan -Feb 1945 Codename: S-Day, Invasion of Luzon (Luzon terrain) Frame 4 Mar-May 1945 Battle of Luzon (Luzon terrain) Frame 5 Jun-Aug 1945 Battle of Luzon (Luzon terrain)
The sea battle of Leyte: The loss of ships and sailors was horrendous for both sides. That battle also saw the introduction of the Japanese kamikaze suicide bombers. More than 5,000 kamikaze pilots died in this gulf battle, taking down 34 ships. But the Japanese were not able to prevent the loss of their biggest and best warships, which meant the virtual end of the Japanese Imperial Fleet. These American victories on land and sea at Leyte opened the door for the landing of more than 60,000 American troops on Luzon on January 9. Once again, cameras recorded MacArthur walking ashore, this time to greet cheering Filipinos. Although the American troops met little opposition when they landed, they lost the light cruiser Columbia and the battleship Mississippi, to kamikazes, resulting in the deaths of 49 American crewmen. The initial ease of the American fighters’ first week on land was explained when they discovered the intricate defensive network of caves and tunnels that the Japanese created on Luzon. The intention of the caves and tunnels was to draw the Americans inland, while allowing the Japanese to avoid the initial devastating bombardment of an invasion force. Once Americans reached them, the Japanese fought vigorously, convinced they were directing American strength away from the Japanese homeland. Despite their best efforts, the Japanese lost the battle for Luzon and eventually, the battle for control over all of the Philippines.

Here's the problem with the numbers we have. There isn't 150 pilots and 15 squads anymore. What we have is 3 groups 10 or more pilots and 4 small squads. Voice comms between squad mates is a force multiplier whether you have thought about that or not. Face it the larger squads have more pilots, therefore they have a good share of the the better pilots in the game. Imagine how fun it is to have 3-4 pilots converging with 10 pilots. It's real fun when you engage with 2 to 1 odds, then find out there were 2 higher you didn't see that were waiting to bounce you after you are engaged. You ought to try that sometime and here you are complaining about having to fly axis.
Think about that, then get back to me about what's fair. What if the little squads just decided they've had enough of playing against the big squads and decided to have a sit out? Would anyone miss them or care?
I'm sure Nookyb and the rest of the gents spending hours; YES hours putting these play grounds together, would love to have some extra time to do stuff in real life they'd like to be doing. It's much harder than you think. I'm sure everyone of them would be happy to let some others put together a series and give them a break.
Be glad I'm not the one putting most the time (I have helped a little) into setting up these playgrounds as it appears there'd be some players sitting out some of the S3's.
