How should a death in fighters / bombers count?
If you die in a bomber, your fighter streak should be unaffected, and vice versa. 92%  92%  [ 12 ]
If you die in a bomber, you should also lose your fighter streak, and vice versa. 8%  8%  [ 1 ]

I've been thinking about one's stats since pilots can now switch between flying both bombers and fighters as needed in the S3 frames. What if you are an ace in a fighter and your side needs you to fly a bomber mission and you get killed? Should you then count as dead for both fighter and bomber stats, losing any fighter ace status, or should a death in a bomber only count against your bomber stats, while dying in a fighter will only count against your fighter streak, not your bomber accomplishments?

As I see it, if one has done well in a fighter and even become an ace in the series, then that would make players much more hesitant to volunteer for flying bombers or transport planes, if dying in such a mission would end one's fighter ace streak. The same if you have a great bomber mission tally with no deaths and your side needs some pilots to volunteer for a fighter sortie.

My thoughts are that in real life WW2 data clearly shows that bomber pilots and fighter pilots did not fly each others aircraft. Therefore why should we mix stats? The two ACs are completely different and so the scores should be awarded to reflect that.

Not that I watch my stats much anymore, but I Agree. They need to be kept separate...yes I do fly buffs when numbers are needed in the S3's.

Coming from the Nightstalkers back ground... Low level heavy fighters or bombers... no one ever complained when we died just the mission we drew.

ok, thats not totally true.. we did complain to Jabo. but if we werent complaining then he wasnt doing it right :)

These are all great things to bring up. However, in the middle of an S3 (and especially when we have pilots who both fly and help design the game criteria) it can be difficult to make changes without creating feelings of bias from which ever side you may be flying against.

Would someone take it upon themselves to post this topic (in capital letters) before the next S3? Then we can see if there are ways to divided the scoring and ace tabulations. Scoring right now is still a problem. It would be nice to find a volunteer who could take on that job alone. When you are working the field set ups, creating AI missions, trying to get out communications to both sides, or creating the next series plane set updates. etc. is hard to take on one more thing and stay a beloved and functional member of your family. If you get my drift. :)
