Double sadness for us in Western Pa. It crashed at our County Airport back in 1987. I'm pretty sure it was a WWII B17 pilot at the controls. Came in too hot with just a slight crosswind. Finally got both main gear on the strip 1/2 way down. Instead of ground looping he thought he could stop but instead went over a 500' steep embankment at what looked like 20 mph or so. If it wasn't for the many many hours of volunteers and USAirways it probably wouldn't have flown again. USAirways did the wings, total rebuild and free I believe. Anyhow, Blue Skies '909' <S>
