Post subject:  FAE Frame 2 Summary

http://www.squadselectseries.com - new map and summary up - summary needs to be updated with S6 stats

In Frame 2 the Allies quickly hit F116 in the center of their line with bombers and heavy fighters but the Luftwaffe were not far behind hitting F106 to the east. A large group of Allied bombers then swung in to hit F99 on the eastern flank and the fight was on. At least 12 medium bombers went down to Axis guns but 7 interceptors were claimed. F116 was soon closed and F99 badly damaged. Throughout the night small return sorties plinked away at the exposed fields in the north and east. The Axis launched a number of sorties against F106 and F167 which they just failed to close as time ran out. But the Allied repeated used of heavy fighters and small groups of bombers wore down the defences and they closed three more fields by night's end. But the cost was heavy with the Axis fighters claiming a total of 97 Allied aircraft, 59 which were bombers(27 human), to their admitted losses of 27(11 from bomber gunners). By closing and capturing four fields the Allies kept the score close. F99, F102, F114 and F116 were all closed during play and lead back to open friendly fields so were ruled captured after the frame.

Axis won the frame 213 to 194 mainly due to the heavy losses in bombers. They did destroy a greater number of ground targets than in Frame 1 to ensure victory.

Good Luck in Frame 3

Notes
1. Complaints about the ineffectiveness of AAA. Host AAA killed 8 planes(5 Allied and 3 Axis) during the night.
2. Complaints about the weak tail of the P38G. 8 losses to enemy aircraft and 3 to AAA. 11 out of 36 sorties.
