Initially the Germans had all the luck with patrols far out into the Channel limiting the recon by the RAF. It wasnt until the 14 ships of the battle fleet moved north of Fecamp that a large group of escorted Wellingtons carrying torpedoes tried to intercept the ships. In a running battle over the deadly dark grey waters of the Channel the unfortunate Wellingtons were run down and destroyed as a fighting force. 23 of the twin-engine bombers were lost along with 9 escorting Spitfires. In return 14 Luftwaffe fighters were shot down into the sea but they stopped the first coordinated attack on their fleet in long before they could get torpedoes away. The second attack was by Boston bombers(B25D sub) escorted by Spitfires with a small group of Hurribombers in support. They hit the fleet off Dieppe from medium altitude and had heavy losses again but managed to sink an escorting destroyer and struck the lead battle cruiser Scharnhorst three times with 500lb bombs. 19 Bostons were shotdown along with 3 Wellingtons and 4 Hurricanes. 11 escorting Spitfires were lost but accounted for 18 enemy fighters protecting their charges low over the Channel. Overall the Luftwaffe outscored the RAF 71 to 33 in aircraft kills during the frame. The one area the RAF did well in was in the number of Luftwaffe Experten pilots that were KIA. The Germans begin the series with a lead 136 to 104. For Frame 2 the fleet will now start somewhere off F106 and head north into the Channel Straits. The RAF is shadowing the fleet and is determined to sink the two battlecruisers before they make it past Dover.
