S3#105 – A Bridge Too Far - Fall 1944

Montgomery's audacious airborne spearhead into Holland is set to end the war in 1944. If the Allies can get across the Rhine the enemy flank will be turned and the wide-open North German plains will see thousands of Allied tanks spreading into the heart of the Fatherland. Both sides plan on using their latest aircraft to support their ground units in this hard-fought battle across three rivers.
This series will highlight the revised late war fighter match-ups. A new series format with 1 life per aircraft type will be introduced to facilitate longer and more varied game play. Events will now be unlocked so those wishing to interact with S3 squadrons may do so. Information will be provided to interested players at login. Let the newbies that want to see historical action see what the we are all about.
This event features the revised ETO terrain and starts September 17th in the S3 Arena at 8:30PM Eastern/5:30 PM Pacific.

Hi Everyone,

It’s the 19th year of the S3 Events and much has changed over almost two decades of play. We are a smaller game now but many of the originals are still here. Three major changes for this year. Generally the fall in participation has changed the way we can play our events.
1. To keep the action going we have dropped the one life to live and instituted 1 life per aircraft type(3 per frame). So the guys that stay alive can continue to fly their chosen rides while those that die or loose an aircraft must move onto another type selected for their squad. You can still ask for resets due to computer controller malfunctions but it is up to each player to keep track of their aircraft types to fly and lives to live each frame.
2. To reward good effective flying each individual pilot will have their plus minus score used in award calculations applied to their sides frame score. As well mission points will be awarded to each side to find the total points per frame.
3. To help recruit new players the S3 will be open to everyone on Sunday. New pilots or lone wolves will see the MOTD when they log in to purple and then be assigned to one side or the other. The complete lack of new pilots coming to the S3s is a problem for everyone. Hopefully a few enjoy the experience and sign up to one of your squads for future play.

Corrected the wrong position for Nijmegan(T38) and added bridges there. Dan was nice enough to get that into the S3 updater. Do update before you play.

Hopefully I can correct the problematic Tac fields for the rest of the series next week.

Points summary is up.

Terrain needs another revision next week to make this fully functional. Primary targets for frame 1 should be airfields and radar sites. Note the Allies get no points for blowing bridge spans. They are trying to capture them and go a bridge too far.

Basically the Luftwaffe get more points from taking down enemy aircraft while Allies have the capability to attack more ground targets with multiple aircraft types.

New pilots to the S3s will be directed to the side that has the most numbers offset from projected. Please stand by to help these new players wanting to experience the S3s.
