http://www.squadselectseries.com - new Map and Summary up

German preparations for their evacuation from England were well coordinated but did not go unnoticed by the British. Eight battleships and heavy cruisers of the Home Fleet were dispatched to intercept the troop transports moving back and forth to Dover from France. Furthermore the entire remaining destroyers of the Portsmouth Flotilla were ordered to steam into the straits from the west. The Kriegsmarine not to be outdone ordered the Bismarck and Scharnhorst to sail and intercept the Royal Navy in the North Sea.

The Luftwaffe was ordered to attack the Home Fleet with all it had. To distract the RAF two large groups of Ju88s were ordered to hit London. This proved successful tying up most of the RAFs defending Spitfires. Even though 18 Ju88s were shotdown some damage was done to London but more importantly the Home Fleet was left without any air cover. Ju88s flying at medium altitudes proceed to bomb the Royal Navy heavies at will sinking all 8 sent out during the day. The remaining destroyers were forced to turn back when it was reported the Bismarck and Scharnhorst were closing in from the east. A number of scattered gun fights did take place between escorting destroyers in the North Sea and a number were sunk or damaged. A few Swordfish attacks were conducted on the Bismarck and at least two torpedo hits recorded but the fast battleship's heavy armoured belt easily shrugged them off.

Again later in the day the same specialized Ju88 force sortied against the Portsmouth flotilla closing in on the evacuation routes from the west. This time there was RAF air support so the bombing was not as deadly but still three destroyers were sunk. Without the support of the Home Fleet this flotilla was forced to withdraw back west. RAF Wellingtons launched a lone attack on radar installations west of Dover later in the day and caused heavy damage but six were shot down by the Dover 109s.

Losses to both sides was relatively light. Nine spitfires and one swordfish were lost outside of the six wellingtons that attacked Dover. The Luftwaffe only lost one Ju88 and four 109s outside of the 18 Ju88s lost on the London sortie.

In the end it was a German victory. They smashed the Home Fleet allowing the successful evacuation of their divisionsfrom England. The panzers were left abandoned on the Dover cliffs but their experienced crews would live to fight another day.

The RAF still leads the series 610 to 582 going into the final frame.

F1 is operational for the RAF and several British ships are now operating from there. The German shipping involved in the invasion are still in France unloading troops but many are now being returned to safer harbours in Germany. The Royal Navy stung by their first major naval defeat is mounting strong destroyer patrols on either side of the straits.

Notes:

1. Caught up on all the scoring and corrections to the end of Frame 4. Phenix just posted them. Thanks for the quick post!
2. Ju88s proved deadly at mid-altitudes against shipping. Not so much as level bombers against London, though some damage occurred.
3. Wellingtons diving down to attack are by far the most effective AI so far.
4. Did not count any sinkings between AI destroyers though I observed at least two. Just to hard to keep track off unless a human kills them.
4. Shipping is an important target and needs to be attacked and protected in the final frame.

Of historical interest "Bimarck" was launched in Sept 1940 but sea trails/testing lasted until mid March 1941.
"Bismarck" was not ready for combat duty until late March of 1941.

I fly every night when they have relaxed realism and NOE attacks 400 miles away from where you haters want me.

Seriously its not fair its not right but its war. The only thing that keeps me here is how much you hate me and love me, in a non-WW2 sense of male bravado.
