Post subject: | OCL Frame 2 Summary |
http://www.squadselectseries.com Frame 2 was quite a bit different than the first frame. The Luftwaffe launched a series of early attacks on outlying bridges over the Rhine and sent their jet strike a/c into the North Sea off of Antwerp to attack ship convoys. Initially the allies formed for their normal patrols but when reports of low attacks on bridges at 36 and 39 were reported they quickly dove eastward to intercept. The German jabos fled eastward after doing damage to the bridges and lost a number to mustangs. The movement of the allied frontline patrols eastward let the Me262s of KG Knights of Ni to sink a half dozen ships in the North Sea and the approaches to Antwerp. The delay in the formation of the Allied BG allowed the German jabos to replane in an anti-bomber roll and climb up to their stations waiting for the inevitable Allied attack. When it finally came it exploited the gap near Nijmegen. At almost the same time the Me262s were back hitting airfields and bridges to the SW of Nijmegen. Allied escorts dived on the the fleet bombers and soone 6 were lost, 4 to fighters and 2 to AAA. An airbase was closed and bridges damaged but it was a heavy loss in specialist a/c and pilots. The Allied BG penetrated into German airbase with the mission of destroying the last remaining Me262 bases. Repeated attacks by the heavily outnumbered LW occurred for the entire trip in and out. 4 B24s were lost during the night but 13 German interceptors were shot down in return by P38s and P51s of the defending escorts. The Me262 strike force was wiped out during the night with the closure of 70 and 73 and the B24s also destroyed L72 with an assist by a low P38 strafing down the last remaining structures. Mossies intruders were again active during the later stages of the frame sinking 3 German ships in the Baltic. The remaining shipping proved elusive during the night and they had to make the long return to end the night. Frame 2 was basically a draw with the German attacks on airfields and bridges making up for the heavy allied bombing and German fighter losses. Me262 losses and bombers losses were close in point totals. Allies continue to dominate the air battles with 33 victories to the German's 7. The Luftwaffe has suffered heavier losses to AAA, 5 of the 33 were from AAA at Allied locations. Allies still have a strong lead due to Frame 1 but their targets are farther into Germany and should allow more attacks on the BG making it harder for them to close bases during a frame. Never make it easy. Good Luck NOTES 1. I loaded the wrong objpoints file for the ETO. I used the new terrain file which has the bridges set ridiculously high(they represent the big cement docks in the new terrain due to a graphic issue) so none of the bridge spans would go down like they normally would. Awarded the Germans 10 spans this frame and 2 last frame. Corrected now. 2. PDF has closed fields on it, there can be no basing or landing at these fields. If you land them you are done for the night. 3. Corrected some errors on the German targets on the PDF. Had AI routines going to the wrong airfields in the south. 4. Some ship routines will unload at the end of their trip. Not all will go until T+180 so make sure you hit them as early as possible. Others last much longer so some searching is required. Some are freighters and some are DDs so you dont have to attack them all. 5. No penalty planes for Frame 2 and it appears everyone flew their C47 or Ju52 during the night. Thank you. |
