S3#95 – Pattle's Pride; Greece - Spring 1941

Mussolini, stung by the successful Greek offensive that had pushed Italian forces back into Albania, was determined to regain the momentum with a spring offensive in early March 1941. The Regia Aeronautica was reinforced with their best Italian fighter, the Macchi 200, and heavily outnumbered the small Royal Hellenic Air Force. RAF support was equally small but as it became clear Italy would continue its assault further RAF squadrons were dispatched to help. Germany was posed in the north to attack Yugoslavia and Greece if the Italians continued to fail on their Albanian front.

The Regia Aeronautica with its MC200s and SM79s will contest the mountainous airspace of Epirus against the RAF and RHAF Hurricanes and Blenheims. Spring weather in this region of Albania and Greece is notoriously bad making operations even more difficult. Until Luftwaffe attacks operations are limited to the Albanian front with both sides attempting to support ground forces, interdict supply lines and put airfields out of action.

Role = squad specific role or expertise, does not limit a/c types unless specific event rules are in place. Aid for Frame CO planning purposes.

The JU87 is not a first line aircraft. In this series you start with your inferior aircraft and if your side loses a frame, Jabo rolls a D6 and the squad that corresponds to the number gets the airframe in the second column. So after frame 1, the Allies lost and Jabo rolled a 2, so RCAF 127 win gets upgraded from a Hurri I to a Hurri IIB, more guns and can carry bombs.
