Post subject: | BHP Frame 5 Summary |
http://www.squadselectseries.com/events ... ummary.pdf Frame 5 saw the Allies try and blind Japanese direction by hitting all the radar in the central New Britain area. This was quite successful allowing the Allies to maintain a strong presence there throughout the night. An early attack by unescorted B25s to the east unfortunately met the main Japanese protection force for Rabual and was decimated. At least 10 B25s were shot down in the running encounters over the sea with little damage to Japanese locations in the area. B25Ds and Mossie fighters were luckier during the night taking down a convoy of small coastal ships and hitting several Japanese controlled villages and ports. Losses were still heavy at 13 but spread out throughout the night as they continued to make attacks on several targets. The fighter vs fighter battle was won by the Allies with 17 Ki44s being claimed for the loss of 9 allied fighters but over all the Ki44s had another great night with confirmed kills on 32 Allied aircraft with a loss of only 20 of their own. The Allies managed to only sink four small Japanese ships out at sea with a further 10 anchored off of various ports. This was the difference over previous frames and the Allies could not make up the points difference without more ships being sunk. Japanese won the final frame and this combined with the previous two gave them the win, 572 to 475. Making the Ki44 a first line fighter would have probably given the allies a narrow victory. So take it as you will. Great job of everyone putting the time in to learn the new FMs being developed and the new bomber AI interface. Not sometimes easy but the amount of complaints were relatively low considering all the new stuff being thrown at you. Some issues have been identified and can be fixed will others may not be able to. The introduction of the Ki44\A6M5a after frame 2 was a game changer for sure but turned a turkey shoot into something that was at least challenging to both sides. Messing with the AI ship routines was informative but unfair to the Allied strike pilots, the Allied DD1s were a nasty surprise. The lack of radar was hardly commented on which was a little surprising. The lack of icons for bombers was commented on and played through with great aplomb by those pilots. I hope this can be fixed for next series. Salute! |
