http://www.squadselectseries.comFresh from a victory in Frame 1 the IJN defenders decided to meet the USN attack massed together over the Truk Lagoon. The USN after loosing most of their strike force in Frame 1 decided to provide massive fighter escort to their TBDs which would be coming in at 10,000ft and level bombing the anchored shipping.
The two forces met just inside the eastern edge of the lagoon and within minutes 75% of the IJN fighter force was shot from the sky. 35 zeros were claimed shot down by the USN while 24 navy blue aircraft were reported shot down by the IJN. The TBDs were able to come in and hit the anchored shipping hard. Over the night a total of 24 ships were sunk. The initial success by the USN allowed them to launch a second TBD strike without much IJN fighter opposition later in the frame. Also low F6F strikes at the end sank a further 8 ships with little opposition.
The USN and IJN are close in score after 2 frames; 201 for the USN and Team Baker to 205 for the IJN and Team Able.
