Jabo has a good write up already on the board already.

With nothing else much to say, so I'll put in a new pitch for the flight testing sight. Testing these planes long ago was a tedious task. In 2007 I wrote a program that when combined with dotfiles could run most of the testing by itself and I posted the results. After version changes and a move to Win7, none of my testing worked. But, due to a dotfile command I recently discovered, I am now able to test by dotfile only for speed (including WEP), acceleration, and climb. All and all the process is the same, so the results are comparable in most cases and I'll be keeping the old data for that purpose. As new planes are changed, I can just rerun the test and post the results. I'm going to make sure I get planes tested before they show up in an S3. I have also done dive testing in the past, but it's a manual test, unless someone can tell me a way for dotfiles to detect when the plane starts to overspeed. The other very manual test is turn testing, but I have been unsatisfied with the results. They can vary by just the mood I am in. :)

Ya got to be from SA and be a Spurs fan to use 'Alamo' as your handle.. :D

Oh course there's a lot of Germans in the Texas Hill Country too.....

BTW Alamo/German came very very close to blasting me out of the sky F1. Never saw him until his tracers were streaming by..

SBD and TBF look the same to me as what you posted? edit...in climb

Speeds are way different.

Did those get adjusted in the bomber FM adjustment?

Dobs above is as they are today.

If you go to the site and compare to the data from 2007, you'll see the TBF is half the speed it was back then and with a now lower ceiling.

Image
TBD (today)=blue
TBD-WEP = red
TBD-WEP2 = green
TBD-2007 = yellow

SBD is similar but not as bad. The Zeroes are all slightly slower than in 2007, although there have been a lot of changes since 2007 that effected all planes, like air resistance factors etc. So, that might account for the shift. That said, the Hellcat testing I did last week almost matched the 2007 data exactly.

Great news Phenix.

I think we should get Spindz on it so you can continue to do these automated tests to prove or disprove much of the "my plane was porked' posts on the IEN site.
I used them to help balance much of the matchups previous to Win7 messing with them.

The TBF is a different plane (better)

The TBD (tub of death) wasn't a performer sadly.

It had crappy torpedoes that in order to work, had to be dropped from around 100ft and less than around 120 mph

It made is best speed at 8000ft, above which performance dropped off speed/climb.
Attacks were usually started from around 6000ft
It took all day and most of the fuel to climb upto 15k.
They never usually went above 12k for bombing because they didn't carry oxygen although plane was equipped to carry it.
