THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE P51:

ITS CLIMB RATE IS INSUFFICIENT
ITS CEILING IS NOT UP TO PAR WITH KNOW ATTITUDES 42K

JEDIJC, ROBERT AND OMEGA HAVE CHECKED THIS OUT THESE PARAMETERS DO NOT
COINCIDE WITH WHAT IS EXPECTED FOR THE PONY.

AVG B-K MODELS

SPD 440
CLIMB 3475
CEILG 42K
RANGE
NORM 1300
EXTD 2370

D MODEL

437 SPD
3475 CLIMB
42K CEILING
1300 RANGE NORMAL
2300 RANGE EXT'D

THE D MODEL IN WARBIRDS DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO THESE PARAMENTERS. ARE THEY
GOING TO BE UPGRADED. IF NOT THE 4TH FG WON'T FLY THESE PLANE DO TO ITS NEUTERING
EVEN ON NORMAL DAYS LET ALONE AN S3.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT.

Let's throttle back here...

What were your test parameters? That will help the dev team compare and investigate. These models (engines) were built on facts and figures derived from factory and test documents. Not saying you are wrong or a mistake wasn't made, just an all caps rant isn't all that helpful to fixing/confirming.

I haven't flown anything new to offer my own opinions.

Test On the deck with 67% fuel (equals test weight in document)
WEP =375mph TAS

Test at 26000' WEP =436 TAS

Climb rate from otd at 150 knots...varied 2800 to 3600fpm depending on autopilot hunting. Recommend an average time to alt for climbrate.

Speeds seem fine, climb may be a tad low.

Service ceiling..lost blower at 40k, or should I say boosted performance dropped to 100% on the throttle setting on the HUD.

Climb rate and acceleration on everything in the game is too low.

The Pony isn't alone.

The biggest change from the previous P51D is increased empty weight of 900 lbs.

WWIIAP.com has flight test weight of the P51D of 9611 lbs with 180 gallons of fuel so that is what it is built to.

It has a more powerful engine now and lots more lift in its flaps. It's speeds are close to real world.

It's a bit better than it was before but it's 900 lbs heavier.

I welcome any new data on any flight model. They are all in constant revision.

And 100% throttle is no longer 100%
I think Robert knows that not sure.

Jabo,
For the next season I would suggest that what ever map we use we use a smaller portion of it. With the reduced numbers it is getting hard on the big maps to force engagements.

Pearl was a good size area in my opinion. Sicily was way too big IMO. If Sicily would have been shrunk down to only the beach heads it would have been much more interesting.

If we are forced into smaller areas we will have to plan better to protect the strike/buff guys and since the fighters end up in big wings anyway, let them fight it out.

Also, please no more suicide buff scenarios, Berlin By Daylight was not a lot of fun.

Good point Muskie.

And maybe score "commanders Intent" of the frame: I.e. if its Pearl, then you better make the effort to bomb Pearl:) Just a thought....

Our numbers are about half of what we expected during the development of the larger terrains. At one time a 128 mile terrain was just too crowded for the average numbers of players for any S3 frame. Unfortunately that is no longer the case so we will use the larger terrains and limit the area of operations etc.

I believe the new FMs will make the S3s a better event and allow historical matchups to be historical for good and bad. It may take us a bit to figure out the proper way to balance said matchups but in the end it will breathe fresh air into the S3 events. I have always believed we needed two games in WBs, the introductory one and the hardcore one. Some people just do not have the time to immerse themselves into a game and need the light version. Others, ie us, need to simulate air combat as realistically as possible in a video game and want the data to be a close as possible to what we perceive as the historical truth.

So find your truth and provide data to back it up. Its a lot to ask a few guys to do all the FM revisions and historical research. New terrains could be developed quicker if we had more historical research and I assume its the same with FM revisions and new aircraft.
