S3#97 – Fall Gelb 2; France - May, 1940

The Phoney War was over and the entire might of Germany is rolling across the borders of The Low Countries and France. Above the air forces of four nations defend their skies against the massed ranks of Luftwaffe bombers and their deadly fighters. Both sides must seek out and destroy the advancing armored forces, defending behind or attacking across the important rivers in the area.

This event will highlight tactical strikes by medium bombers and other supporting aircraft against airfields and towns to influence the new FEBA battlefield system. The frontline moves based upon the success in support of each sides ground forces.

Our next event starts Feb 28th in the S3 Arena at 8:30PM Eastern/5:30 PM Pacific.

So far the only problem I see is this:

Safe Ditch - if you run off the field and ditch within 10 miles(105600ft) of the tower the ditch is NOT awarded a kill. It is assumed that aircraft and pilot can be salvaged. This takes into account the distances between tac fields and their remote spawn points.

10 miles = 52,800 feet...half of what you have posted, which is a lot.

You are correct Splt. 10 miles(52800ft) should cover the tac fields.

PERSONAL OPINION DEPT.

I will be the first to admit that I have no idea what a FEBA battlefield system might happen to be. IF it happens to introduce AI GVs of any description into S3 play, I'm personally really sorry to see that in a S3 Event. IMHO, it is a guaranteed way to reduce participation.

We have done this before in many series. The only difference is instead of writing all the AI routines and launching them as needed the new FEBA system automates it based upon human interaction. Way more complex programming than I could ever hope to do. The nice thing is you dont have to be onside as it plays with or without you. Consider it a target rich enviroment that simulates the spearhead of an offensive. The majority of offensive bomber attacks by the both sides in BOF were on the defensive lines, bridgeheads and other tactical targets and hopefully the FEBA system can help simulate this.

The FEBA is running between 39 and 50. Is that where it will be based at the start of the frame or will it be another place? I didn't see any place to add human interaction with the FEBA system. ;)

Following a "successful" 15 mb UPDATE through the Advanced Main Arena yesterday.....I'd say that the map files have some problem somewhere.

Brief description if I may.
FEBA= Forward Edge of Battle.
Upon start of the battle file, the General will choose the 2 closest fields, and start a battle with ground forces attacking each others fields. Jabo is right in that he has done this before using mbl files, kill the mbl file, they restart, kill em again etc. Anyway, these two forces attack each others fields. The fields attacked also generate a defensive routine that defends their own fields also. Most of the time, they fight to a stalemate, UNLESS human intervention occurs with strikers attacking the tac field, or ai, that are defending, or attacking. Tanks are generated by the general for attacking/defending. When airplanes flown by humans enter the battle area, say, to strike a field, the General will also generate a defensive antiair routine. Type of gv can be varied, and also programmed to shoot poorly or good.
Object of ground strikers would be to kill fixed groundobjects like normal. Once fixed objects are dead, the forward deployment attacks FROM that field may stop. Also, ground strikers can then ( after fixed objects are dead) strike the defensive antiair gv assets. When THEY are dead, the field will go gray and is labeled "contested" and that field will generate no more attacks or defensive routines. If the attackers field ( nearest one) is still intact asset wise. The General will then generate an capture mission, and will automatic capture the field. Then, the defenders nearest field will also Generate a "recapture" mission, which will automatically attempt to "recapture the field, but only if ITS field assets are intact. Left alone each routine may actually fight themselves into a stalemate, but air assets may then strike the "recapture routine, killing it, and supporting their own "capture" routine...again human interaction intervening to influence the outcome of the battle.
This is for the FEBA area only. ( two fields)
At OTHER fields, the front can still be advanced by attacking fields/vils/tacs in the usual way with no tanks being present, HOWEVER the attacked field will still generate an antiair asset to defend it and the above rules still apply for "contesting " a field and capturing it. These assets will appear when you fly into an area over the field, and disappear when you fly away.
I believe its up and been running in the s3 arena and can be checked out.
Its also the same system used on Thursday night events, although the Thursday night thingy has human tankers present....but the system is still the same.
Jabo is right, in that we have done this several times in the past, except that these are more interactive and actually react to human presence in the area.
If played right, the players will be able to influence outcomes, and not wait for jabo rulings and updated maps about the front moving. The players will be able to move the front themselves.

Well at least Jabo groups will have more actual Jabo missions (CAS, interdiction).

Is FEBA tied to strategic assets?
