S3#77 –Razorback Rustle; Europe - Fall 1943 Game Settings
Basic Rules Initial Format - changes after in bold italics. 1. Start Times - each frame uses the following schedule;
2. Operational Restrictions - each side may only conduct operations in the area outlined in the game map. Squad roles are squad specific expertise but does not limit operational missions or conduct during the series. Aircraft assigned to a squad determines which missions they can conduct during a frame. Each side has its operational area divided into 5 zones based upon a range radius from London. Before each frame two adjacent zones are annouced for the upcoming missions. 3. CM radar & reports - avoid flying over enemy occupied land for long distances above the 150ft AGL, this increases the chance you will be spotted by donkey dar. Do not follow enemy coastlines, flying at least 5 miles offshore at any alt is a good rule to follow to reduce the chance of CM reports. Generally once you begin an attack on a target you will be reported so hit and run, do not linger in the area unless you want to be bounced. 4. Weather - their will be thick cloud starting at 30,000ft to try and bring the fight down to more historic levels. 5. Secondary Damage - the new secondary damage makes all aircraft more fragile in the tail sections but this will be most noticable in bombers with an increased likelyhood of loosing their stabs. Bomber otto has been increased to deter rear 6 attacks. Flying in tight bomber formations is still the best defence. 6. Ord Restrictions - pure fighter a/c types cannot carry ord during play but may carry droptanks. 7. Aircraft Steps - each side begins play with a set number of a/c steps outlined in the Step Table. Every a/c type is assigned a mission types for which they can be used. If after a frame losses to a specific a/c type or class are over 60%(from all causes) one of the at-start steps will be removed from play and a replacment step is issued. 8. Squad Basing - each airfield has a step allowance for initial basing of aircraft. Once play begins squads may transfer to any open airfield during play and may ignore step limits. LW squads are assigned to a particular zone for initial basing and may wait until play develops before being assigned to a specific airfield.
9. Missions - there are bomber, intercept and escort missions that score VPs if successfully completed. The Allies must announce before Sunday which two zones they will be attacking with their bomber missions. These two zones must be next to each other. All targets can be in one zone or divided up between the two. The LW must then divide up their squads to initially base at least 4 steps in each of these zones. Each zone is then limited to when the LW may launch. The Allies must attack at least 3 different zones during the series or forfeit the game. 10. Allied Bomber Boxes - the Allies must divide up their available bomber units/steps into 3 distinct Bomber Boxes. Each bomber box must maintain at least a 10 mile distance and 2,000ft elevation difference between them while over Mainland Europe. Each bomber box may only be assigned one target to destroy on the map. 11. Allied Missions - The Allies have 3 bomber and 1 escort mission each frame which can score them between 2.5 to 7 VPs each frame. Each Bomber Box is assigned one numbered target on the map and its destruction and location determines how successful each bomber mission is. The Allies score 0.5 VP for the destruction of any numbered target in zone 1, 1 VP for the destruction of any target in zone 2-3 and 2 VPs for the destruction for any target in zone 4-5. Destruction is considered at least 75% of all buildings in an industry location. Each target can only be attacked once during a series. The Allies score 1 VP for their escort mission if they shoot down(confirmed kills only) more enemy fighters than they lose to enemy fighters. 12. Luftwaffe Missions - The Luftwaffe have 3 intercept and 1 escort mission each frame which can score them 4 to 7 VPs each frame. Losses to each Allied Bomber Box determine how successful each intercept mission is. The LW score 1 VP for each Bomber Box that losses 30%-60% of their airframes from all causes and 2 VPs for each Bomber Box that losses over 60% from all causes. The LW score 1 VP for their escort mission if they shoot down(confirmed kills only) more enemy fighters than they lose to enemy fighters. 13. German Radar - cannot be attacked during this strategic series. 14. German Flak Concentrations - extra AI flak will be positioned in the red areas indicated in the playing map. Flak accuracy will be very high due to the altitudes involved in this strategic series. Expect to see flak damage so avoid these areas when possible. 14. England - no LW aircraft may fly over England at any time. Doing so will be awarded a Penalty Plane. One airbase in England will be announced with a 20,000ft airstart, all planes may use this during the frame for discos without damage, late arrivals and reception escort. Luftwaffe is advised to stay high or away from England because of this. 15. Penalty Planes - players that commit errors in basic rules and do not attempt to correct the error during play will have a penalty plane assigned to their squad. Examples include flying different a/c during a frame, teleporting fields when not allowed by special rules, gunning from ships or flak positions. Squad Penalty Plane Tallies are kept in the PPlist. It is up to each squad to fly their penalty a/c and let the CM know how many have been flown after a frame so they can be removed them from the list. Please check your squad and clean up the PPlist during each series.
16. Victory Points - For each mission ruled successful each side is awarded 1 or 2 Victory Points depending on the number of aircraft lost/shotdown or the location of the bombing target on the map. 17. Victory Conditions - The side with the most VPs at the end of the series wins. The max VPs that can be scored in this series is 35 for each side, 7 per frame.
